Welcome to Santa Irene Winery in Farmakas, Cyprus

Santa Irene Winery is the realization of Daniel Anastasis's dream. After leaving his cherished village of Farmakas, Daniel traveled to Australia and South Africa, where he built a life with his wife Theoni and their children. Following their success abroad, they returned to the tranquility of Farmakas, where Daniel envisioned a premium winery and restaurant, Ierambelos Fusion Cuisine, surrounded by the very vines that produce their wines.

Established in 2015, Santa Irene Winery spans 200 hectares of vineyards. The local ‘Mavro Ampelisimo’ grape variety thrives here, complemented by smaller plantings of the Xynisteri variety.

Vines Thriving on the Slopes of Farmakas Mountains

The stunning landscape of Farmakas is truly remarkable. As the 10th highest village in Cyprus, it sits at an altitude of 950-1000 meters. The vineyards are situated on the mountain slopes above the village, some reaching heights of 1350 meters. With roots that are over 150 years old, these vines draw nutrients from the mineral-rich soil. The combination of age, altitude, and traditional winemaking techniques results in wines that are rich in character and complexity.

Signature Wines of Santa Irene

The winemakers at Santa Irene are dedicated to promoting Cypriot wines and sharing the region's winemaking traditions with visitors. Among the most popular offerings are the Santa Irene Laxia Dry Red, Santa Irene Theoni Dry Rose, Santa Irene Daniel Dry White, Santa Irene Vounoplagia Dry White, Santa Irene Protari Dry Red, and Santa Irene Shiraz Dry Red.

The best buffet I’ve experienced in Cyprus so far! The variety of dishes is truly exceptional—from fish, octopus, red and white meats, to more than six different salads, and a wide array of both traditional and European sweets. Visually, the spread is a feast for the eyes before you even take your first bite. The wine is equally fascinating. They don’t use yeast in the way we’re familiar with. The grapevines in this region are unique, requiring no irrigation, and naturally develop their own yeast on the surface of the grapes. This yeast is collected and used for fermentation. After the grapes are processed, they also produce Zivania, a strong spirit with an alcohol content of 40-43%. It’s delicious, and I personally enjoy it on cold evenings, not only as a drink but for its medicinal qualities. I highly recommend this secluded mountain spot for a Sunday lunch, any time of the year, with family and friends. On some days, after lunch, you have the opportunity to visit the winery, where you’ll get a brief but insightful explanation of the winemaking process. You can also purchase as much as you’d like, and even arrange a wine tasting for a small fee. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family did. Even my daughter, who is quite selective with wines, was so thrilled that she purchased over €380 worth of wine for her collection.

Very good service! Friendly people! Perfect food! Great view! Beautiful surroundings! Sure! They showed us around the winery and talked to us about the wines. How is everything going? For the vines They gave us a video to watch! We are completely satisfied! We were there on Sunday and there was a buffet with food and sweets! Good prices!

Great winery with very good wine, and the dishes are fair value for money. Great service. The restaurant was almost deserted, which is why we were a bit skeptical at first. We ordered salad and 2 glasses of wine (sweet and dry) and were delighted - it was beautifully presented and the salad was delicious. The wine was excellent! And that was for €5 a glass (we're used to other people in Germany). We just wanted to take a quick look at the wine containers, so the owner even gave us a short 5-minute tour of the production process (even though he said he had no time at all). Amazing and thank you!

A super nice and humble winery. I went on a Saturday for lunch, tried the chicken platter with veggies and potato wedges. The chicken was really good and soft. I tried the halloumi as well, was really good too but can use a bit more sauce. My friend tried the stake, said was really tasty as well. We had a bottle of white wine called Danero blanc de noir 2022 (premium selection), was very smooth and tasted so fresh. The staff are all very friendly and we even had some wine tasting and you can buy wine there as well. Highly recommend this winery! We got to walk around the place there, the location of the winery is beautiful.
