A Scenic Winery in the Heart of South West France
The Scenic Estate of Chateau Thenac
Chateau Thenac, named after its charming village, is built on the historic ruins of a monastery established in 1109. In 2001, the Shvidler family revitalized this estate, restoring its former glory. Nestled on a plateau of exceptional limestone hills, the winery is located east of Bordeaux in the picturesque Périgord region, known for its medieval castles, exquisite wines, and prized black truffles.
The Unique Vineyard of Chateau Thenac
Chateau Thenac boasts a distinctive terroir with a diverse range of soils, including limestone, flint, and a rare mix of sand and clay. This unique geological composition, combined with the estate's altitude, protects the vines from frost and extreme temperatures. The vineyard spans approximately 35 hectares of the total 210 hectares of the estate. Here, 25 hectares are dedicated to red grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec, while the remaining 10 hectares are planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle for white wines.
A Commitment to Quality
The expansive grounds of Chateau Thenac also feature 500 Ente Plum trees, which are essential for producing Eaux-de-vie. Every step in the winemaking process is executed with precision to ensure the highest quality. Grapes are handpicked and undergo vinification in stainless steel vats, allowing for temperature control that preserves the freshness of the aromas. The Shvidler family emphasizes the health of the grapevines, showcasing the natural characteristics of the terroir in every bottle.
