Domaine de la Charbonniere: the former place where coal was burned The Domaine de la Charbonniere located in the Rhone Valley region. Eugene Maret bought this winery in 1912 as a gift for his wife as she was the daughter of a winemaker. Fernand Maret enlarged and worked on the estate before Michel Maret, the third generation of the family, took over the winery. He was the one who gave the winery its current name, which means the area for coal burning.
