A Family-Owned Winery Committed to Organic Practices and Exceptional Wines
Domaine de la Charbonniere: A Legacy of Quality
Domaine de la Charbonniere is nestled in the picturesque Rhône Valley, a region renowned for its rich winemaking heritage. Founded in 1912 by Eugene Maret as a gift for his wife, the estate has been lovingly nurtured by the Maret family for generations. The name "Charbonniere" reflects its history as a coal-burning site. Today, Michel Maret, the third-generation owner, continues to uphold the family tradition, while his daughters, Veronique and Caroline, have taken on key roles since 2014.
Exceptional Vineyards in Chateauneuf du Pape
The estate spans approximately 17.5 hectares in the prestigious Chateauneuf du Pape appellation, along with 2 hectares in Cotes du Rhône and 4 hectares in Vacqueyras. The Maret family practices organic farming, ensuring that their vineyards thrive without harmful chemicals, promoting both environmental health and grape quality.
Key grape varieties cultivated here include Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Counoise, Clairette, and Roussanne. These grapes are carefully selected to produce high-quality red and white wines, as well as unique single-vineyard cuvées.
Refined Wines with Character
Recent upgrades to the winery have introduced modern techniques while respecting traditional methods. Fermentation occurs in truncated wooden tanks, and aging takes place in both steel and wooden barrels. The Cuvee Traditionale exemplifies the winery's commitment to purity and balance. Charbonniere's wines are known for their silky texture and vibrant flavors, showcasing excellent aging potential that enhances their quality over time. This winery is a must-visit for wine enthusiasts seeking to appreciate the finest offerings of the Rhône region.
