Two Generations Managing Together

The Gerhard estate has a long history of winemaking tradition in Pfalz, and their professional approach has led to the production of many award-winning organic German wines. The winery was established in 1959 by Walter and Gerlinde Schwarztraube. Later in 1981, Gerhard Schwarztrauber, the current owner, joined his father’s business as a winemaker and in 1994 and took over the winery. Today, along with Petra Schwarztrauber, Gerhard handles the management of the estate, keeping the family traditions alive.

Wide Range of Wines at the Winery

Boasting vineyards of 20 hectares, the owners cultivate a vast range of grape varieties, including Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Auxerrois, and Muscaris. All the vineyards are located in the most fertile soils on the edge of the winegrowing area of Mittelhaardtgebirge. Practicing organic viticulture, Gerhard also grows Gelber Muskateller, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Saint Laurent, Blaufränkisch, and Dornfelder in his parental vineyards. Using these selectively handpicked berries, the produces ecologically balanced white and red wines, along with luscious rosé and sparkling wines.

Today, equipped with modern machinery and advanced technology, the winery has become the ideal place of transformation from vine to wine. Under controlled temperature conditions, the fermentation takes place in the stainless steel tanks, placed in a dark room. Wines ae then refined, stored, and aged in wooden oak barrels and barriques.
