Founded in 2006 in Backi Vinogradi, near the picturesque Palic Lake in northern Serbia, Winery Tonkovic is dedicated to reviving the kadarka grape, a historical variety native to Vojvodina and Slavonija (now part of Croatia). This grape is now primarily found in Serbia and Hungary. The Tonkovic family cultivates 8.5 hectares exclusively dedicated to kadarka, producing exceptional wines that highlight this unique variety. Thanks to Ignacije Tonković, a former diplomat and a prominent figure in the Vojvodina and Serbian cultural scene, kadarka has gained recognition as one of the region's most significant wines, celebrated worldwide. Their wines have earned numerous awards in both local and international competitions, and they proudly represent Serbia in the prestigious wine museum in Bordeaux, France.
At Winery Tonkovic, you can taste their exclusive wines, including a rare blanc du noir, which is a delightful white wine made from red grapes. During your visit, you will learn about the rich history of the region, tour the cellars, and enjoy a curated tasting experience paired with delicious local cuisine. This is a perfect opportunity to savor the flavors of Serbia while appreciating the craftsmanship behind each bottle of wine.
