Company History

The Colja family has cultivated this land for centuries, transforming its challenging karst soil into a thriving vineyard. Located just a few kilometers from the Adriatic Sea and Slovenia, in the quaint village of Samatorza, the Colja Jožko farm has a rich agricultural tradition. While the family has always grown various fruits and vegetables, it was in 1990 that Jožko took the helm and initiated a modernization of the winery. This included the introduction of specialized vineyard practices, innovative planting techniques, and advanced winemaking systems, all aimed at enhancing the quality of their wines.

A New Beginning

The winery underwent significant renovations, including the construction of a new facility carved into the rock. The old vineyards were replanted, transitioning from traditional pergola systems to the more efficient guyot method. This shift allowed for a greater focus on native grape varieties, resulting in the production of distinctive wines such as the white Vitovska and Malvasia, as well as the red Teran, all of which reflect the unique characteristics of the Karst region.

Philosophy of Colja

For generations, the Colja winery has celebrated local grape varieties and traditional dishes, emphasizing the importance of the Karst territory and its unique attributes. The winery balances respect for its historical roots with a commitment to innovation, continually improving its practices while honoring the land's legacy. This dedication ensures that each bottle of wine tells a story of the region's rich heritage and the family's enduring passion for winemaking.

We were here for the first time today for lunch and were very surprised. The relatively large restaurant was very busy—no wonder, given the excellent food at affordable prices. The service was also good—a true family business. Only the wine wasn't quite up to scratch—I would have expected a bit more in this area.

Splendid place for a place characteristic of the Karst of Trieste... when the weather is nice it is very pleasant after a walk to stop at the outdoor tables... inside a nice fireplace and enough seats... not big, there are tables like three or four big ones and a couple of smaller ones... excellent service, everyone is fast and friendly, good price

My experience at the Agriturismo was not the best. Although the room was not very full, we had to wait 2 hours and 30 minutes between the first and second course. This was probably influenced by the fact that the average age of the kitchen staff seemed a little advanced, and this was reflected in the slowness of the service. I think an extra push and some fresh energy would benefit this place a lot. Average dishes

We had lunch. We arrived at 2 p.m. and were served at 4 p.m. An unimaginable wait time. The non-trivial cold cuts starter was excellent. The Lubyanskaya with fries was excellent. It's a shame there were very few potatoes, very small compared to the usual. The dessert with plums inside was also excellent. It's a shame these shortcomings because at least the food I tried was to my liking. I can't say the price because I didn't pay.
