Calafe’ Di Petrillo Yields 6000 kg Grapes per Hectare
Among the steep hills and narrow valleys of Avellino, Calafe’ Di Petrillo Winery is built on a two hectares land, bordering Montefredane, in Vigna. The vineyards, serving the estate for 15 years, are located in the lush territory of Prata Principato Ultra, where volcanic soil dominates the land. Surrounded by fertile terroirs and benevolent climate, the vines cultivated here are enriched with multiple minerals and aromas.
A Winery Operated By Three Sisters
Benito Petrillo, a publishing expert and nature-lover, purchased two hectares of land in 1999 out of affection for his granddaughters – Camilla, Laura, and Federica. Surprisingly, the winery’s name is derived from the first two letters of the girls, ‘CaLaFe.’ With great passion and commitment, the trio runs all the operations at the cellar and vineyards. The estate immediately becomes well-known among the locals because of its award-winning Greco di Tufo. After introducing their niece, Kami, into the winemaking business, the trio started producing sparkling wines with a unique Brut method.
Luscious Wines and Balsamic Sauces
Focusing on only two grape varieties, Greco di Tufo and Aglianico, the winery produces top-class white and sparkling wines under Irpinia DOC and DOCG status. The owners use stainless steel tanks for their unique Greco wines and wooden oak barrels for Aglianico. This is the best way for the aging and refining and to keep the organoleptic characteristics of the berries intact.
