The Family Behind Baia's Wine

Baia and her two younger siblings grew up in Obcha, Georgia, in a warm and traditional winemaking family. Surrounded by two generations of winemakers, they learned the art of viticulture from an early age. The Abuladze family cultivated their own small farm, complete with vineyards, greens, and livestock, fostering a deep connection with nature. They practiced Imeretian winemaking techniques, utilizing a shorter maceration process with only 5-10% grape skin during fermentation in Qvevri. After earning her degree in agronomy, Baia returned to Obcha to promote Imereti wines and expand her family’s winery.

A New Chapter Begins

In 2015, the Abuladze family entered a local agricultural startup competition and secured a grant of approximately $2,000 USD, which they used to purchase a used wine bottling machine. This marked the birth of the Baia's Wine label. Together with her siblings, Baia restructured the winery to focus on organic winemaking practices. They dedicated themselves to understanding their grape varieties and terroir, leading to the bottling of their first organic white wine in 2015. This women-led initiative quickly established Baia's Wine as one of the pioneering organic wine producers in the Bagdati Municipality.

I visited Baia's Wine Cellar recently, and it was a wonderful experience! The place has a nice and cozy atmosphere, with a mix of old and modern styles. They only serve local wines, and they have a great selection. The host was very friendly and knew a lot about the wines. They helped me choose one that I really liked. I also tried some food there, and it was delicious. The food matched perfectly with the wine. Everything tasted fresh and was made with care. The service was excellent. The host made sure I had a good time and answered all my questions. If you like local wine or just want a nice place to relax, I highly recommend Baias Wine Cellar. I will definitely go back again!

Amazing, tasty and clean wine and food, all prepared fresh on spot. The host was very welcoming, explained the process of winemaking very well and is obviously very passionate. They also set a fireplace for us. I brought tourists here, but I will definitely come back with friends.

It is a magical place. The Abuladze family radiates so much warmth, serenity and calm and spoils the guests of the winery not only with natural wines but also with delicious Imeretian specialties.

Baia’s Winery is truly a standout destination for wine enthusiasts. The winery offers an intimate and welcoming experience, far removed from the crowded tourist spots. From the moment you arrive, you're greeted by breathtaking views and a warm, family-like atmosphere that immediately sets the tone for an unforgettable visit and the star of the family “Bingo”. Mama at Baia’s Winery is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. She takes the time to walk you through each wine, explaining the nuances of the varietals and the unique characteristics of their vineyards. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or a casual wine lover, the experience is both educational and enjoyable. Speaking of the wines – Baia’s selection is exceptional. The reds are bold yet balanced, with rich flavors that linger, and the whites are crisp and refreshing with a perfect balance of acidity and fruit. I especially recommend trying their Tsitska-Tsolikouri, Krakhuna and the unlabelled red wine, which showcases the true artistry behind their winemaking. The ambiance is another highlight. The tasting room is cozy and inviting, with an elegant yet laid-back vibe, and the outdoor patio offers stunning views of the surrounding vineyards – the perfect setting for enjoying a glass of wine. If you're lucky, you might even get to meet the winemaker or one of the family members who are often on-site, which adds a personal touch to the experience. Overall, Baia’s Winery is a must-visit for anyone in the area. It’s a fantastic place to unwind, enjoy high-quality wines, and learn more about the craft of winemaking. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful time at Baja’s Winery 🤩 This family place has a wonderful story and you can feel how much effort, dedication and love has been poured to make it all happen. We had the best Georgian food out of the whole one-week trip, which was paired with the best wine. Tamara has been extremely kind and welcomed us at the place so well, it was regrettable to leave after one day. A must visit for anyone really, hopefully we will be able to come back soon ❤️
