Winery Philosophy

Ca' Bruzzo Family Vineyards is nestled in the picturesque Colli Berici Hills of Vicenza Province, located between Venice and Verona. This family-run winery produces a limited selection of around 20,000 bottles annually, cultivating five grape varieties on their lush hillsides. Founded in 1985 by Aldo, his wife Sarah Wallace, and son Alan, the winery is now managed by Alan and his wife Sabrina Lamonica. Each vine is meticulously hand-trimmed, allowing the winemaker to guide the fruit's development each year, which is central to the winery's philosophy.

The Terroir's Influence

The unique character of Ca' Bruzzo wines stems from the careful cultivation of the vines and the exceptional terroir. The winery employs eco-friendly organic farming practices, ensuring low yields that enhance quality. The wines are allowed to mature naturally in barrels and evolve gracefully in bottles over time.

The region's micro-climate, characterized by windy conditions, helps keep the leaves dry and the grapes healthy, minimizing the need for treatments against fungus. The hills, formed by volcanic activity, rise nearly 500 meters and feature red clay and limestone soils rich in minerals like iron oxide, which contribute to the production of balanced, dark red wines. Historical records from Ancient Greece, dating back to 600 BC, highlight the esteemed quality of Colli Berici wines. The vineyards, some with vines up to 150 years old, rely on deep-rooted systems to access moisture, enhancing the wines' earthy characteristics. New vines are propagated from cuttings of these ancient plants, preserving the vineyard's unique heritage and the diverse blend of grape clones that define their exceptional single vineyard wines.

The best wine experience!

We visited Ca’ Bruzzo while spending time with our daughter, who is assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade. As a military family that has lived in Europe for over a decade, we’ve been fortunate to experience many wineries, but this was truly one of the best. From the start, the experience was warm and personal. We called the owner’s wife and she immediately arranged a same-day tour for us. When we arrived, the vineyard owner welcomed us like family. He walked us through the vines themselves, taking the time to explain every grape variety—from century-old vines he has carefully nurtured to new plantings less than two years old. His knowledge was endless, yet shared in such an approachable, engaging way. There wasn’t a single question he couldn’t answer with both expertise and passion. The tasting was beautifully paired with local cheeses and meats that perfectly complemented each wine. It was clear that every detail had been thoughtfully prepared. The small, quaint vineyard also had a charm all its own—the playful puppy and friendly cats that live there made us feel even more at home. What stood out most was the personal story behind the wine. The owner moved to Italy at 15 and has since become a true master of his craft. He embodies “vine-to-glass” winemaking, and it shows in every sip. This visit was more than just a tasting—it was an education, an experience, and a heartfelt connection. For anyone in the Vicenza area, Ca’ Bruzzo is the crème de la crème of winemaking experiences.

We had a great experience at the vineyard. We got a nice tour of the grape fields, got the story of the winehouse and the vineyard, and got to taste some of the great wine they make, with a great pairing of small appetizers. All in all, a great experience, very recommendable!

Wonderful and relaxing experience at this lovely family owned winery. Our host was welcoming, kind and gave us a great presentation, recounting the history of the vineyard, explanations on how the grapes are cultivated and a generous tasting. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and conversation. Would highly recommend and the wine is organic!

“Great job dad!” from the kids can be hard to come by, but I got a few from finding Ca’ Bruzzo Family Winery while on a family trip in Italy. The journey start by getting off the highway and winding your way through small Italian towns until you get to the base of the hillside the winery sits on top of. The roads wind and climb as they get smaller and the scenery and views get better. I got my first “great job dad” before we even pulled in. We were the only guests there and Alan Bruzzo who owns and runs the vineyard promptly met us and started showing us around. This is an informal though intimate tour that feels like you stopped by a long time friends place to catch up. Great stories of the history and current plans and we learned a ton about the vines and different types of grapes. From there we headed to the multipurpose tasting room that is also the wine cellar, art gallery, and music stage and used as a small event space. We jumped right into the wine tasting with each of us getting a personal charcuterie board with each item uniquely made to pair with the different wines. As Alan poured each glass we learned about the wine making process with some fun stories of mistakes and lessons learned throughout the years to get to the high quality and exceptional product he produces every year. I can’t recommend this tour more. It’s unlike any others and if you appreciate small, informal, intimate and want to impress your family and friends you will love Ca’Bruzzo!
