The story of Cantine Mustilli is deeply rooted in the rich tradition of Sannio viticulture. Leonardo Mustilli, known as "Papà Della Falanghina," was a pioneer in the 1970s who championed the revival of the Falanghina grape, which was primarily used for distillation at the time. By focusing on single-variety wines, he showcased the unique characteristics of this native grape. The Mustilli family has been cultivating the lands of Borgo Sannita since the early 16th century, having originally come from Ravello, a historic town in the Republic of Amalfi. Their remarkable tufa cellars, located beneath the family palace, continue to age their select wines, reflecting the family's enduring connection to winemaking.

Sustainable Practices in Viticulture

In the 1970s, Leonardo and Marili Mustilli revitalized the family tradition of grape cultivation in the hills of Sant’Agata de’ Goti. They reintroduced esteemed local varietals such as Falanghina, Greco, Aglianico, and Piedirosso, which had been neglected in favor of more globally recognized grapes. Their vineyards span fifteen hectares of clayey-limestone soil, where winter cultivation enhances rainwater drainage. The land is nourished through green manuring or organic fertilizers, and pest management follows integrated practices to ensure sustainability.

Wines Crafted with Passion

At Cantine Mustilli, the wines are celebrated for their approachability and authenticity. The flagship varieties—Falanghina, Greco, Piedirosso, and Aglianico—are crafted from pure, indigenous grapes. The winery produces distinctive labels such as Secret Vineyard, Artus, and Cesco di Nece, showcasing the unique terroir. Additionally, their sparkling wines, Regina Sofia and Regina Isabella, undergo bottle fermentation without disgorging, making them perfect for any occasion.

If you are thinking of visiting Sant’Agata then you must visit the cantine Mustilli. For me it was an incredible experience! The location is incredible, they make you visit the old winery which is under the ground below their home, and then you taste their wines which are really amazing and plus the wine producers are two sisters, the whole business is run by amazing women :) in whole the experience is wonderful

our visit to the cellars was more than a simple tour, it was a journey into the past between culture and history, a sensorial experience where we met exceptional people and appreciated their wine and local products. We had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with the owner and her daughter who immediately made us feel at home. I highly recommend the experience to anyone who wants to enjoy a moment of peace while sipping good wine, I will definitely return!

Excellent hospitality. Mrs. Paola and her daughter are very kind. As they are also the owners of the cellar, they tell the story of the cellar with great warmth. The tour of the underground cellars is, what can I say? A magical place steeped in history that is sure to leave visitors with fond memories. I recommend the products and the wine tasting to everyone.

We stayed here and popped in for a tasting! Excellent home feeling from entry to departure! They have a nice courtyard to sit and enjoy their wines and even play a few games to entertain yourself and just enjoy their nonstop hospitality (with tables that have three legs!! Perfection… they may not be level but they don’t wobble!!) As we were leaving on Sunday they were offering some local tastes… see pictures! Their white wines were a hit!
