The Colacino- Wine Company residing in the Calabria Region

The Colacino wine company is located in the Calabria region, which is known as the Land of Wine since ancient Greek times and produces wines with unique qualities because of the favorable natural conditions in the area. Vittorio Colacino was a local doctor who also grew vines and made an intense wine with a spicy cherry aroma named Britto.

Winery in the Beautiful Sila Area

Presently, his children, Maria Teresa and Mauro run the family business and have introduced modern and innovative techniques to the winery. Mario Soldati, in his famous book of 1975, wrote about the Britto wines, that ‘Nothing is Savuto, Savuto is only Britto.’ The vineyards are in great locations, which give character and originality to their wines. The vineyards are terraced and have small stone walls that face the River Savuto Valley, 500 meters above the sea level. This land is located in the beautiful Sila area of the Marzi municipality.

The land gives unique characteristics to even the same grape varieties.

High-Quality Grape Variety

The main grape types that grow in their vineyards are Greco Nero, Nerello Cappuccio, Arvino, Pecorello, Malvasia Blanca, Mantonico, and Greco Bianco. An effort is made in the vineyards to reduce the yield of grapes and make sure they are of high quality. The workers handpick only the best grapes and take them to the wine cellar. The red wines have a distinct black cherry flavor while the rose wines have a pinkish color, fruity taste, and flowery aroma. The white wines have floral flavors, and one can feel the taste of citrus and pineapple in it.
