History of Domaine Poncereau de Haut

Founded over 40 years ago, Domaine Poncereau de Haut began when Jean-Claude Benassy took over his parents' vineyards. At a time when the region focused on Pineau des Charentes and Cognac, he became a pioneer in the creation of the "Vins Charentais" appellation. Driven by his passion for wine, he chose to sell directly to visitors, sharing his love for the craft.

Today, Ophélie and Florian Benassy carry on their father's legacy, continuing the family tradition of winemaking since 2017. They represent a new generation of independent winemakers dedicated to quality and authenticity.

Commitment to Quality Winemaking

"It all starts with a vinestock." Our dedication to winemaking begins with nurturing the vine throughout the seasons, honoring both nature and the generations that have cultivated this land.

As independent winemakers, we oversee every aspect of the winemaking process—from vine cultivation to bottling. This hands-on approach ensures that our cuvées receive the attention they deserve, resulting in exceptional quality.

Respect for the Vine

The vine is a living organism, and respecting it is our top priority. Our commitment to sustainable practices leads us to apply treatment products judiciously and pursue environmental certifications.

We utilize short cane pruning to manage yields and produce healthy, high-quality grapes. The deep, silty, and sandy soils surrounding our estate contribute to the richness of our wines, while the diverse grape varieties we cultivate create a wide array of aromas.

Our Winemaking Expertise

In the cellar, we prioritize the integrity of the vine's fruit to extract its best qualities. Our techniques include soft pressing, controlled fermentation temperatures, and aging 'on the lees.'

With a blend of traditional methods and modern oenological advice, we craft wines that reflect our unique personality and the essence of our terroir.

Really superb vineyard! The welcome, the time spent explaining their work, the quality of the wines, the value for money, ... how can you give a lower rating! We have visited many vineyards throughout France and this one will remain one of our best memories!

Very nice day of organized harvest where the welcome, the presentation, the professionalism mixed with a good dose of kindness and a few laughs reminded me that the awards for the famous vintages Ophélie in white and vintage Florian in red, were not due to chance. Congratulations to you, it is well deserved, good luck.

Very good white wine (Blanc tradition), bought from my oyster seller. Very good value for money. Neither too dry nor too fruity. The right balance.

Very welcoming and friendly vinyard with a good selection of wines and aperitifs. First discovered their fantastic Cuvee d'Ophelie about 7 years ago at a local restaurant and paid around 15 euros for a bottle of it only to discover it was produced in the vineyard next to the gite we were staying at for significantly less. Tried last years vintage again recently and still just as crisp and still only around 6 euros a bottle even today. Well worth a visit 👍👍👍
