Experience the Rich Heritage of Georgian Winemaking at Guramishvili’s Marani
The Story of Guramishvili’s Marani
Guramishvili’s Marani, nestled in Saguramo, holds a significant place in Georgian history. This winery was once part of the estate of Ilia Chavchavadze, a prominent figure in Georgian culture. After its acquisition by the Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking (KTW) company, the ancient wine cellar has been meticulously restored, and rare grape varieties are now cultivated in the region. Guramishvili’s Marani produces both traditional wines and classic champagne, employing time-honored Georgian methods. Notably, their sparkling wine, “Grand Reserve Brut 2015,” received a gold medal at the prestigious Sakura 2020 wine awards in Japan.
Reviving Historic Vineyards
The vineyards that once flourished under Chavchavadze's care fell into disrepair after his tragic assassination, becoming a cow pasture and dumping ground. However, KTW's stewardship has revitalized this land, restoring it to its former glory as a prime viticultural area. The winery is dedicated to reviving ancient Georgian grape varieties, including some that have nearly been forgotten. To support this effort, a modern irrigation system has been installed, ensuring that the vines receive the necessary water for optimal growth. This commitment to both tradition and innovation makes Guramishvili’s Marani a unique destination for wine enthusiasts.
