La Collina dei Ciliegi: A Hidden Gem in Veneto

La Collina dei Ciliegi is a charming winery situated on the gentle hills of Valpantena, established in 2005 by Massimo Gianolli and Stefano Falla. This picturesque area is part of the renowned DOC of Valpolicella. The vineyards, which surround the winery and resort, are perched between 450 and 700 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views. The name "La Collina dei Ciliegi" translates to "The Hill of Cherry Trees," a nod to the cherry trees that once graced the land when Massimo first planted the vines. The winery has deep roots in the Valpantena region, particularly in the village of Erbin, where Massimo's father, Armando Gianolli, was born in 1925. This Cimbrian village, surrounded by vineyards, cherry trees, and lush woods, holds cherished memories for the Gianolli family.

Commitment to Sustainable Winemaking

At La Collina dei Ciliegi, sustainability is at the forefront of their winemaking practices. The winery blends family traditions with modern techniques to cultivate high-quality grapes and produce exceptional wines. In 2023, La Collina dei Ciliegi received official certification for organic practices, demonstrating their dedication to maintaining healthy soils and responsible cultivation methods.

Grape Varieties, Wine Styles, and Accommodations

The winery primarily cultivates Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes, which are essential for their acclaimed Valpolicella, Valpolicella Ripasso, Amarone, and Recioto wines. In addition to red wines, they offer unique white wines crafted from Garganega grapes, including a sparkling Brut and a pure 100% Garganega still wine. Their superior selection blends Garganega, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc as part of the innovative Alta project. With over 170 national and international awards, La Collina dei Ciliegi also features the luxurious Ca’ del Moro Wine Retreat, a resort and restaurant set amidst stunning vineyards, perfect for relaxation and enjoying exquisite food and wine with a captivating view.

We stopped here for a tour of the wine yard and couldn't have had a better experience. Our guide Sabrina was very knowledgeable and could confidently answer all questions we had. She was also very hospitable and friendly. The wines themselves are next level, especially the Amarone they served. Highly recommended!

Booked with ease from the website a wine tasting experience with a visit to the winery. A big praise to Camilla who immediately called me to confirm and give me special directions to reach the place despite a road closure. After the call a mail with more clear instructions followed, which was much appreciated. The place is clean, well kept, everyone was polite and welcoming. The weather helped us enjoy the sun and a cool breeze while walking the wine yard. The winery was also well kept and we received insights on technology and methodologies used. Jacopo led us throughout the whole visit and was super prepared, competent and kind, explaining everything with politeness and knowledge. A big praise to him as well because he took all the time needed to talk and chat with us and give us extra pointers. The wine we tasted was excellent quality, a good variation and the accompanying food/aperitivo was also delicious. I would definitely recommend the whole experience, with a special praise to the staff.

At the invitation of a friend, we felt pampered. Despite having very young waiters, the service does not lack experience. Everything prepared in the description of the dishes and in the recommendation of the most suitable wines for the chosen dishes. The very extensive wine list is not limited to local products but remains in the context of the winery's production and can also taste selected wines from global production. All dishes are well prepared and have refined flavors that intoxicate the palate, satisfying first the sight and then the taste. Experience to try ... and try again. You were all FANTASTIC!!

I'm writing the review after a year, but I remember everything like it was yesterday! We were greeted by a very friendly girl who gave us a tour of the entire property and the cellar. At the end, we got to taste their wines along with some appetizers. We were pleasantly impressed by the experience and would love to come back. Obviously, the wines were stratospheric!
