Organic Viticulture at Liesch Bioweine

For over 35 years, Liesch Bioweine has been dedicated to organic wine production. Founded by Louis Liesch Sr., the winery transitioned entirely to biodynamic farming methods three and a half decades ago. This commitment to sustainability earned the winery both Biosuisse and Demeter certifications. Margrit Liesch, Louis's wife, played a crucial role in this transformation, advocating for chemical-free farming for the sake of their four children. "The use of poisons in food production was always a concern for me," she recalls.

The Winemaker's Path

Louis Liesch's journey in winemaking began in his youth, assisting his father with vineyard work for local farming families in Malans. In 1953, he took a significant step by enrolling in the first viticulture course in Wädenswil, marking the beginning of his formal training as a winemaker. Since then, he has passionately pursued excellence in viticulture.

Current Operations at the Winery

Today, Liesch Bioweine operates on 2.5 hectares of land, primarily cultivating Pinot Noir grapes. In 2014, Louis Liesch was honored as "Swiss Organic Winemaker of the Year" by the wine magazine "Vinum." The winery continues to uphold its commitment to biodynamic practices, producing high-quality organic wines that reflect the unique terroir of Graubünden.
