A Legacy of Tradition, Passion, and Sustainable Innovation
Monte Vibiano Castle, dating back to the 1st century BC, is located near Perugia in the heart of Umbria. The estate features the historic Lorenzo vineyard, established in 217 BC, and boasts a remarkable collection of 55 hectares of olive groves, some of which are over a thousand years old. The family’s deep affection for this land, combined with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, has led them to protect over 700 hectares of pristine land, ensuring it remains untouched for future generations.
A Legacy of Vision and Commitment
The family, originally from Tuscany, settled in Umbria in the early 1700s. They began cultivating vast lands, focusing on the meticulous production of wine and extra virgin olive oil, which has become their hallmark. This love for nature, along with a unique vision that has always been part of the family’s ethos, has fostered a revolutionary approach to agriculture that is now recognized worldwide.
The Green Heart of Umbria
Andrea Fasola Bologna, the founder, planted over 10,000 trees around the estate more than fifty years ago. These trees have grown into a magnificent “green barrier,” protecting the vineyards and olive groves from human impact. Today, only 40% of the estate is dedicated to agriculture, while the natural “green embrace” nurtured over decades covers more than 30% of the land surrounding the castle.
Artisan Wines with a Commitment to Sustainability
The wines produced here are unique interpretations of the Umbrian terroir, crafted using natural processes. The estate cultivates a variety of grapes, including Trebbiano, Grechetto, Sagrantino, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, and Merlot. During fermentation, the skins are gently broken down to extract rich polyphenols and aromas. The family’s values, respect for the environment, pursuit of excellence, and innovative spirit are the driving forces behind the winery’s passion and success.
