Sartal is a wine-producing company in the Alenquer, located north of Lisbon, and it houses three wineries in the area named, Quinta de Sao Jeronimo, Vala Nova, and Quinta da Vassala. The driving principle of this family wine project at Quinta da Vassala estate that spans more than half a century has always been the search for quality in wines and vineyards supported by the love and respect for the land. The old Vassala cellar has been renovated, and it has the latest technology and vinification methods to create the best wines. The cellar stores American and French oak barrels for the ageing of wines. Quinta da Vassala spreads across 400 hectares at the base of Serra de Montejunto slopes.

Exciting and Characteristic Wines

They believe that the combination of their philosophy, the terroir of Lisboa’s Montejunto mountain range and on-site grape and wine production and bottling, allows for the creation of exciting and characteristic wines. Red grapes form 80% of the total area and mainly include Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Syrah, Castelao, Merlot, Aragones, and Alicante Bouschet. The white wine varieties are Fernao Pires, Arinto, Chardonnay, and Seara Nova. The workers handpick the best grapes and use them to make quality red, white, rose, and sparkling wines. Depending on the weather and other conditions, the harvest is carried out at night. The low temperature helps the grapes retain their natural fruity taste. The owners respect the natural resources given to them by nature and proudly transform them into their wines.
