The Birth of Modern White Wine in Friuli

In 1965, Mario Schiopetto made history by barreling his first “Tocai,” marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of white wine production in Friuli. Renowned as the “master of white wine” in Italy, Mario was a trailblazer who played a crucial role in the modernization of Italian wines. His innovative spirit and dedication to quality set a new standard for winemaking in the region.

Passion and Innovation at Schiopetto

Schiopetto Winery is more than just a place to taste wine; it embodies a rich story of hard work and passion. Mario's journey as an innovator was fueled by his travels around the world, where he sought new techniques to enhance his winemaking. His approach combined French elegance with German precision, resulting in wines that reflect both tradition and innovation. Visitors to the winery can feel Mario's presence in the vineyards and the modern underground cellar he designed, which harmonizes with the beautiful Italian-style reception house above.

Unforgettable Wines from Schiopetto

Located in the prestigious Cru of Capriva, Cru of Zegla, Cru of Pradis, and Cru of Oleis, Schiopetto Winery specializes in both red and white wines. What sets their wines apart is Mario's philosophy of listening to nature and understanding the terroir. By selecting grape varieties that thrive in the local soil, Schiopetto produces wines that are a true reflection of their environment. Bought this Friulano (ex Tocai) in Rome which is one of the best Friulanos I have tasted. Full, tasty and fresh that you can consume it with meat as well as fish. Well done to those who bring wine to these levels

We were pleasantly surprised by the history of Schiopetto and their wines, which differ from the common Friulian wines, i.e. they have less body but an excellent balance, we were lucky enough to meet Matteo, the winemaker who was able to best explain their products to us . I absolutely recommend it

The cellar is located in a splendid setting. We started with the idea of the usual tasting, we were welcomed with great kindness by the owner Francesco, who gave us a complete tour of the company, explaining all the various production phases. The apotheosis arrived at the tastings, extraordinary, intense and fragrant wines. The quality of the wines is very high. COMPLIMENTS.
