Soloperto: A Winery in Manduria by the Ionian Sea
Located in the picturesque town of Manduria, Soloperto Vini is surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Puglia and the sparkling waters of the Ionian Sea. This region is renowned for its Primitivo vines, which flourish in the local vineyards, creating a breathtaking countryside. Today, the winery is proudly managed by the third and fourth generations of the Soloperto family, who are dedicated to preserving their ancestral winemaking traditions.
The Soloperto Family Legacy
The story of Soloperto began in the early 1900s when the family established a bulk wine estate, recognizing the land's potential for producing exceptional wines. In the late 1960s, Giovanni Soloperto took a significant step by bottling the first Primitivo in a modest wine cellar. The family now cultivates some of the finest vineyard plots, including historic crus of Primitivo vines, with some over a century old. Notably, the oldest Primitivo vineyard is located in the Bagnolo district, where the estate produces the prestigious Centofuochi PDO.
Additionally, the family cultivates fruity Verdaca, Chardonnay, and White Bombino grapes.
Innovative Winemaking Techniques
Under the guidance of Sabrina and Ernesto, Soloperto has embraced modern technology in its winemaking processes while honoring traditional methods. The winery features a new structure equipped with French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks for aging and refining wines. Primitivo remains the flagship wine, complemented by high-quality Negroamaro PGI, Locorotondo DOP, and Martina Franca DOP wines.
