The Finest Family Wines in the Colchagua Region

Villalobos Winery, Focusing on Wines Made from Carignan

At Villalobos Winery, the main grape varietal grown is Carignan, initially planted in the 1940s at the Villalobos family estate winery. They are located in Lolol, in the Colchagua Valley, a characteristic land of non-seaside Chile. The vines at Villalobos have never been treated traditionally, however they have evolved rather naturally without being subjected to chemical sprays.

During the last sixty years, grapevines at Villalobos Winery have grown among this terroir’s original flora composed of native trees and brush. It is a constant quest at the winery to create a unique wine. Using the Carignan grape as their variety of focus, Villalobos Winery succeeds in delivering original wines to Chile and the rest of the globe.

Unique Quality of the Vineyards

The winemakers at Villalobos Winery recently decided to move away from the traditional modes of monoculture vineyards.
The current goal at Villalobos Winery is to produce vineyards that reflect the year’s specific climatic conditions and reflect their particularities. The wines will thus benefit from the unique, organic, and wild quality of our vines that favor a harvest of grapes whose flavors and aromas are in harmony with those of the Chilean countryside.

The Harvesting and Winemaking Processes

The winery philosophy is based on unconditional respect for the environment, especially the soil where our grapes are produced. The steps of vineyard work are carried out with the help of horses and traditional tools that make it possible to regulate the vegetation. In the middle of brambles, wild roses, and native trees, the harvest is done by hand, a laborious and challenging task because of these vines’ specific location. In addition, the pressing process is replaced by a decanting system using gravity. The vinification is done naturally, and the wine finishes its maturation in French oak barrels. This process allows the creation of wines in limited editions, but whose production conditions are unique and deserve to be appreciated in all their aspects.
