This picturesque estate is home to diverse wildlife, including deer and buzzards, adding to its charm. The winery features a welcoming tasting room where guests can savor the unique flavors of its wines.

Franz-Josef Eifel Winery blends traditional and modern winemaking techniques.
With a deep respect for family winemaking traditions, Franz-Josef Eifel skillfully combines conventional and innovative grape cultivation methods. The use of oak barrels enhances the aging process, resulting in refined and flavorful wines.

Vineyard Practices on Trittenheim's Slopes

The winery's vineyards thrive on the steep inclines of Trittenheim, where 80-year-old grapevines flourish. Riesling is the primary grape variety cultivated here, known for producing exceptional Mosel wines. The family-owned micro-terraces feature around 50 to 100 plants each, and the grapes are handpicked to ensure only the finest bunches are selected for fermentation in large stainless steel tanks. Minimal intervention during the winemaking process allows the wines to mature gracefully.

Comfortable Accommodations for Visitors

Weingut Franz-Josef Eifel also offers cozy accommodations for visitors from around the globe. The Marlene Eifel-Zimmer guesthouse features elegantly furnished rooms equipped with modern amenities. Guests can enjoy spacious dining areas, comfortable beds, and inviting living spaces, making it an ideal retreat for wine lovers and travelers alike.

I feel very comfortable in Trittenheim. The landscape, the air, the vineyards... wonderful. Our landlady is attentive and pays attention to detail. Especially the breakfast, delicious and varied. The wine is just good with stars for me. White wine at its finest. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants to go. Kind regards, Gaby Heidkamp

It took a few years until we tried the Moselle and in the area around Trittenheim, FJ Eifel is definitely the best winemaker. Maximum finesse and very good storage potential, of course everything fermented spontaneously. See you soon, I say :-)

In my opinion, Franz-Josef Eifel fully deserves the title of Mosel Winemaker of the Year. Why? Mr. Eifel greets us very friendly and first asks about the group's tastes. He directs the test towards this. -- And he can do that, because Mr. Eifel develops most of his vineyards in three or even four flavors (dry, off-dry, fruity and some also noble sweet, if the vintage and the autumn weather allow it). To do this, he chooses the harvest times so that the sweeter wines also receive more acid. The different expansion in each case emphasizes different flavor nuances, sometimes more, sometimes less. This creates a library of Mosel wine from the best Trittenheim locations, a matrix of: - Location - Quality level (it starts with Kabinett...) - Sweet-acid interplay/expansion - vintage. In the mountain this means up to four harvests (all hand-picked, of course); in the cellar he has to develop each of his layers three to four times according to type with a lot of attention, precision, fermentation control (spontaneous fermentation, no cultivated yeasts, temperature control), long yeast storage, plus additional effort in filling and equipment. In addition, everything in the Eifels is organic and almost everything is steep. This means many times more work in the vineyard - sweaty manual and "foot work" - compared to a conventional wine. Accordingly, the bottle price for dry Riesling is between 12 and 42 euros. But the result is Rieslings that are a lot of fun! The sticks are now in our cellar and waiting to be tasted again. :- )) Thank you, dear Mr. Eifel, for this exciting and instructive rehearsal!

The Rieslings from this winery are in a class of their own on the Moselle and are among the best in the Riesling range nationally and internationally that can be purchased. The Sonnenfels (Auslese dry), for example, stands confidently next to Wittmann's Morstein or the Hermannshöhle of a renowned winemaker from the Nahe, among others. The Eifel wines are also price/performance winners in every category on offer. I also think it's worth mentioning that despite all his achievements, Franz Josef Eifel doesn't seem aloof, but always friendly and courteous. I can only smile about the sauerkraut note of my predecessor in the reviews here. I have been tasting the entire collection every year for 17 years. Apart from one (!) Brettanomyces, I didn't come across any false tones. I hope for many more good vintages from this company!
