Zagreus Winery, Established in 1998

Zagreus Winery was established in the autumn of 1998 and currently has 120 hectares of vineyards. The varieties of grapes cultivated include Mavrud, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. The vineyards are located in one of the most favorable winegrowing regions of Bulgaria, the Plovdiv Plain on the Upper Thracian Plain were under the perfect climatic conditions the grapes ripen in July. The conditions are ideal for providing the raw materials essential for the production of quality wine.

In 2013, Zagreus Winery became a certified organic wine producer after a three-year transition period.

Natural Protection of the Vineyards

Since 2010 the vineyards have been cultivated under European Union specifications for organic wine production, and in 2013 after a three-year probation period, the winery became a certified organic wine producer. In the cultivation of grapes, the winery does not use synthetic pesticides and fertilizers or genetically modified organisms. Everything is natural.

The Philosophy of the Winery

Zagreus Winery is a modern winemaking complex able to complete the entire production cycle beginning with the grapes and ending with the wine’s bottling. It is equipped with the most contemporary fermentation facilities to optimize and control all processes of vinification, aging stabilization, and bottling. The winery believes that what happens in the vineyard and the winemakers’ consciousness determines the behavior of the wine in the bottle. Their ethos is about growing the best grapes under the best possible conditions to pursue quality and in caring for the environment.
