A Tuscan Winery Celebrating the Rich Heritage of Local Wines
How It All Began
In the heart of Tuscany, the story of Molino di Sant'Antimo began when Carlo Vittori inherited the historic ruins of the 'Molino di Sant'Antimo' from Cavalier Ciacci. This winery pays tribute to the region's winemaking traditions, adopting its name and the emblem inspired by the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, marked by the first Bishop Paolvs. By the 1990s, the estate expanded to over 40 hectares, with half dedicated to vineyards and olive groves, all nestled among lush woods and Mediterranean flora. In the early 2000s, Carlo completed the restoration of Podernuovo dei Campi, a charming 19th-century farmhouse that now serves as the winery's center and the Vittori family's home.
The Winery Today
Today, Azienda Molino di Sant’Antimo spans approximately 40 hectares, with vineyards positioned on south to southeast-facing slopes at elevations of 250 to 300 meters above sea level, descending towards the Orcia River. The majestic Monte Amiata provides a natural backdrop, while the 'maestrale' wind carries the scent of the nearby coast. This unique location benefits from a diverse soil composition of clay, marl, and mineral-rich crushed stone, ideal for grape cultivation. The vineyards have been developed with care, reflecting a commitment to quality and the rich heritage of Tuscan winemaking.
