Enclosed by hilly terroirs, lush countryside, and microclimate, Cantina Della Volta is located in the heart of untouched Lambrusco di Sorbara, a certified wine region in Emilia Romagna. Surrounded by the charming hills of Modena, the estate delivers sparkling wines under the range ‘Il Mattaglio’ – two still wines and two vintage reserves from single grape varietal, two brut sparkling wines and one zero dosage sparkling wine.

Reshaping Winery Into a Modern Estate

Headed by the fourth generation winemaker, Christian Bellei, Cantina Della Volta has always been supported by friends. Started in 1920 by Christian’s great-grandfather near the banks of Naviglio di Bomporto, the estate holds a rich winemaking history of the Bellei family. Christian studied classic methods of wine production in Epernay, and later in 2010, he reshaped the traditional winery into a modern, innovative wine estate. Today, along with his father Guiseppe, he produces the highest-quality sparkling wines that are renowned at local as well as international fronts.

Quality in Every Step

The winery covers a total area of 34 hectares, out of which ten hectares is for the cultivation of vines. In 1981, Christian’s father purchased more land in San Lorenzo and expanded the vineyard-zone. In the vineyards, the Bellei family grows three grape varieties, namely Lambrusco, Pinot Nero, and Chardonnay. All viticulture activities, such as cultivation, pruning, and harvesting, are done manually. Only the best bunches are carried to the cellar in 17 kg boxes.

Della Volta wine cellar is a place where traditions meet innovation. Situated near 18th-century Darsena, the cellar features state-of-the-art systems, a Bucher Vaslin press, thermo-conditioned stainless steel tanks, and a range of barrels, lined up and exposed to air conditioning system for effective ageing and refining of grains. A visit to this awe-inspiring estate is both joyous and knowledgeable.
