The Pioneering of the Carolina Jakoncic Winery

The history of the Carolina Jakoncic Winery started over a century ago in 1847. The couple of Michael and Carolina Jakončič then planted the first vines in the beautiful hills of Kozana, just by the western border of Slovenia. That was the starting catapult of the wine-growing activity in Brda.

A Wide Range of Wines

During the years to come, after the creation of the winery, the estate, and its offers expanded and reached new possibilities and markets. Although difficulties came with war, the family owning the winery through generations has fought for their wines. From having a very limited range of wines to offer, the Carolina Jakoncic Winery now produces a wide range using grapes such as Rebula, Merlot, Pikolit, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Vert, and many other varieties.

Delicious Characteristic Wines

The Carolina Jakoncic Winery produces a range of truly unique wines that are nowhere else to be found. They go by the three categories: Jakončič, Carolina, Mosaic, and Uvaia. The Jakončič and Carolina wines have the widest range, consisting of elegant and unique white and red wines. The Mosaic wines are delicious sparkling wines, and the Uvaia wine is a truly unique wine. It is a fortified wine with an orange shade, fermented in special egg-shaped barrels that add constant circulation to the fermentation process. Almost all the vines are grown in Marl-soil although there are some vines that grow among sandstones and soil consisting of deep alluvial layers.
