A Family-Owned Winery Blending Tradition with Modern Techniques
The Legacy of Carolina Jakoncic Winery
Founded in 1847, Carolina Jakoncic Winery has a rich history that began with Michael and Carolina Jakončič planting the first vines in the picturesque hills of Kozana, near Slovenia's western border. This marked the beginning of a vibrant wine-growing tradition in the Brda region.
A Diverse Selection of Wines
Over the years, the winery has expanded its offerings, overcoming challenges such as war to establish a strong presence in the wine market. From a limited selection, Carolina Jakoncic Winery now produces a diverse array of wines, including popular varieties like Rebula, Merlot, Pikolit, Pinot Blanc, and Sauvignon Vert.
Unique and Characterful Wines
The winery is known for its distinctive wines, categorized into four lines: Jakončič, Carolina, Mosaic, and Uvaia. The Jakončič and Carolina lines feature elegant white and red wines, while the Mosaic line offers delightful sparkling options. Uvaia stands out as a fortified wine with a unique orange hue, fermented in special egg-shaped barrels that enhance the fermentation process. Most of the vines thrive in marl soil, with some growing in sandstone and deep alluvial layers, contributing to the wines' exceptional character.
