Castel di Salve is a renowned winery located in the picturesque village of Depressa, near Tricase in Southern Puglia. This architectural gem, built from local Lecce stone, was established by Antonio Winspeare in the late 19th century, reflecting the region's traditional building style. Today, the winery is lovingly managed by his grand-nephew Francesco and his son Riccardo, who have revitalized the estate while maintaining its rich heritage. They have carefully selected old vineyards and the finest soil to cultivate new vines.

At Castel di Salve, we believe that exceptional wine starts with exceptional grapes. Our team is dedicated to nurturing our vineyards daily, ensuring every aspect of the cultivation process is meticulously attended to. We primarily focus on indigenous Salento grape varieties, including Verdeca, Negroamaro, Primitivo, and Malvasia Nera di Lecce, while also incorporating other exclusive southern Italian varieties. Our aim is to capture the vibrant red hues of the local soil, the aromatic essence of the Mediterranean, the warmth of the Salento sun, and a subtle hint of the nearby sea in every bottle.

Highly recommended. Very friendly and competent. Reflects the professionalism of Apulian wine-growing. The development of the Primitivo and the Negroamaro is phenomenal. But the white and the Rosato are also fresh wines that you can fall in love with. Definitely visit and buy wine, it's worth it. Will be a must for us in the future when we are in southern Apulia.

The young man Ricardo who took us on the tour was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly. The tour was informative and the tasting was pleasant and generous.

What can I say? I already knew Castel di Salve, I did the standard tasting last year and this year I chose the private one with a tasting of special vintage wines. The characteristic of Castel di Salve is to combine a refined culture and history with the welcoming color of a family, their wines of great elegance have a character that makes them immediately recognizable, if you have drunk Castel di Salve, you recognize Castel di Salve. Entering through the entrance arch means entering a world of care, love, passion and culture. Between the two tastings, both interesting, I definitely recommend the private one, the added value is invaluable.

We dropped in without a booking & were made very welcome by Lucia. She was very knowledgeable, took us through the winery, showed us where the grapes are crushed, the vats, bottling process. After that we tasted some lovely wines, each one explained to us. The owner Francesco & son Riccardo joined us on the tasting room. We had a really enjoyable few hours chatting with them learning about the family history. The family has been making wine for 5 generations. Highly recommend.

Top company. No ifs, ands or buts. A historic company with a century-old presence in viticulture. A company that represents Made in Italy in a key and important area in the production of Primitivo, one of the most important wines in Italian production. Impeccable organization with online sales as well. Production is industrial but with particular attention to the craftsmanship of the product. Impeccable quality of the wine, the lieutenant's sword represents its spearhead. Excellent company that I recommend!

To top it off the family is very welcoming and knowledgeable. It felt as we are visiting friends. Go there you will not be dissapointed.
