Nobility Obliges, Pleasure Beguiles

Since 1851, Castel Sallegg has been under the stewardship of the Counts of Kuenburg. The castle's history in the Caldaro district dates back to the 16th century, with various expansions and enhancements over the years. Today, Castel Sallegg encompasses 30 hectares of vineyards, including the renowned Leisenhof, Preyhof, and Seehof estates, making it one of the largest private wineries in Alto Adige.

Noble Heritage

The first recorded mention of a winepress at Sallegg Castle dates back to 1746, although viticulture in Oltradige has a much older history. The winery's vineyards, situated at altitudes ranging from 230 to 550 meters, benefit from diverse soil types and orientations. This unique location, where northern and southern climates converge, creates ideal conditions for grape growing. The cool evening winds from the mountains help maintain a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity in the wines.

Tradition, Not Trends

Castel Sallegg is dedicated to preserving its rich heritage. The Counts of Kuenburg emphasize sustainable practices, generational thinking, and a profound respect for nature. This philosophy drives the winery's commitment to producing wines of exceptional quality, characterized by clarity, elegance, and a true reflection of the Caldaro terroir. The Nobilis, Serenis, and Imperialis lines showcase the winery's history and the legacy of its ancestors, featuring standout wines like the MOSCATO ROSA, brought from Sicily in 1892, and award-winning selections such as Lago di Caldaro Scelto Classico BISCHOFSLEITEN and MERLOT NUSSLEITEN.

Sustainability and Innovation

Castel Sallegg is also embracing modernity with innovative packaging. In 2022, the winery introduced a lightweight bottle made from 100% recycled glass, featuring a sommelier bottle head for added convenience. New labels reflect the historical ties between the Counts and their wines, presenting a fresh and elegant design that harmonizes tradition with contemporary aesthetics.

We enjoyed an excellent lunch with a glass of wine. Since the food was so good, we also treated ourselves to dessert. That was a very good idea. The service was very friendly, discreet and attentive. Perfect. We will definitely come back.

I've lived in the area all my life, I like to visit the nice places for a drink, just to say I've seen a few places around here. Only in the last few weeks I managed to go to Castel Sallegg, I knew about the new management and I was curious. Together with my partner and her dog we drank a few glasses and ate a focaccia and a tartare. Fabulous setting, wonderful wines, food made with clearly visible care and above all fabulous service. Courteous and smiling girls, even one of them at a certain point brought a bowl of water to the dog without anyone having asked, "because she will be thirsty too, beautiful darling you are", she said, caressing her. Wonderful place, whoever doesn't go there misses something.

Sensationally beautiful place & wonderful atmosphere! The audience was a mixed bunch, from young to old. Lots of locals too - always a good sign...

Very beautifully situated little castle in Kaltern. In the tasting room you can try and buy the current wines. Prices are a bit higher, as is the case for wine in South Tyrol. The wine is delicious and ideal as a small souvenir.
