Crafting Exceptional Wines in the Heart of Catalonia
The Origins of Celler Pedrola
Located in the picturesque village of Miravet, known for its stunning castle and scenic views of the Catalan Ebro, Celler Pedrola has a rich history rooted in winemaking. The winery is situated in “l’Hort del Motxo” in the Tulieses area, where the current owners’ grandparents began producing wine in the 1940s, shortly after the post-war period. Initially, the wines were crafted for personal enjoyment, using grapes from their own vineyards. The winery follows a carefully planned harvest schedule to ensure the grapes reach their peak quality for winemaking.
Exceptional Wines and Vineyards of Pedrola
The harvest season at Celler Pedrola begins in August with the collection of grapes for low-grade white wine, which serves as the foundation for their sparkling wines. By mid-September, the ripest Macabeo and Moscatel grapes are picked to create a vibrant white wine, while young red wine is produced from Syrah and Merlot grapes. The harvest concludes in early October with the production of sweet wines from the old Macabeo vineyard, followed by the collection of ripe Carignan grapes.
The vineyards thrive in the fertile silt lands along the Ebro River, particularly in the “Islands” area where the Camí de Sirga runs. Here, white grape varieties flourish alongside black varieties in the inland lands. This unique combination results in balanced, fresh, and fruity wines, each showcasing distinct flavors and aromas. Wine enthusiasts will appreciate the floral notes, fruity undertones, and the rich aromas that reflect the grapes' journey from the vineyard to the cellar, and ultimately to the table.
