The Origins of Celler Pedrola

Located in the picturesque village of Miravet, known for its stunning castle and scenic views of the Catalan Ebro, Celler Pedrola has a rich history rooted in winemaking. The winery is situated in “l’Hort del Motxo” in the Tulieses area, where the current owners’ grandparents began producing wine in the 1940s, shortly after the post-war period. Initially, the wines were crafted for personal enjoyment, using grapes from their own vineyards. The winery follows a carefully planned harvest schedule to ensure the grapes reach their peak quality for winemaking.

Exceptional Wines and Vineyards of Pedrola

The harvest season at Celler Pedrola begins in August with the collection of grapes for low-grade white wine, which serves as the foundation for their sparkling wines. By mid-September, the ripest Macabeo and Moscatel grapes are picked to create a vibrant white wine, while young red wine is produced from Syrah and Merlot grapes. The harvest concludes in early October with the production of sweet wines from the old Macabeo vineyard, followed by the collection of ripe Carignan grapes.

The vineyards thrive in the fertile silt lands along the Ebro River, particularly in the “Islands” area where the Camí de Sirga runs. Here, white grape varieties flourish alongside black varieties in the inland lands. This unique combination results in balanced, fresh, and fruity wines, each showcasing distinct flavors and aromas. Wine enthusiasts will appreciate the floral notes, fruity undertones, and the rich aromas that reflect the grapes' journey from the vineyard to the cellar, and ultimately to the table.

We visited yesterday and everything was great. Josep María was very kind, the cherry picking was a surprise, and the visit to the area in general. The wine tasting was great with a large appetizer. There were 4 of us and it was super pleasant, close and familiar. We left delighted, to be honest, and we will repeat.

It was a highly recommended experience. Josep María takes you through some vineyards and tells you in detail the different aspects of wine production. The visit ends with a tasting of wines and typical products of the area, all in the pleasant company of her parents. Two hours that flew by. It is definitely worth it.

The best experience I have had in vineyards. Personal treatment from the owner, a walk through the field of almond trees, nectarines, peaches, the vineyard, then the winery and logically the wine tasting in a very familiar room next to a table of good food, sausages, cheeses and a lot of variety. I would return for sure!!! You can buy your wines to take home.. they are all excellent!!

Visit 100% recommended! There are several reasons for this, but without a doubt I would like to highlight the treatment and closeness of the owner. It is a super complete experience, from the visit to the vineyards, to the area where the wine is produced, to the tasting with a wide variety of snacks. All the wines are very good! The whole group agrees, an ideal plan to get to know the area and the wines both as a couple and with friends.

We loved the experience. Josep Maria first visits the vineyards and fruit fields of the winery. Afterwards they do a tasting of the wines they produce, typical food from the area and seasonal fruit. Everything was very good. We were also able to buy the tasting wines, vermouth and sparkling wines that they produce. For the littlest one, she was able to try white and purple grape juice, so she also enjoyed the experience. Highly recommended visit if you are in the area.

Our wine tasting tour at Bodega Pedrola was an exceptional experience. Despite arriving 30 minutes late, Mr. Josep Gonzalez was incredibly understanding and accommodating. We began with a visit to their red grape vineyard, where Mr. Gonzalez thoroughly explained their organic farming practices, emphasizing sustainable water usage and natural techniques that benefit the soil and environment. Next, we toured a vineyard closer to the Ebro River, dedicated to white grape cultivation. Here, we saw a fascinating traditional oval well, an ancient Arabic technique where clay pots attached to a horse-driven wheel drew water—a clever and historical method. This tour was educational and enjoyable for all, including our three teenagers. Mr. Gonzalez then showed us where the wine is made using traditional techniques. We had a wine tasting session where we could choose three out of five different wines, and Mr. Gonzalez generously allowed us to taste four. His mother, Ms. Maria, prepared several local delicacies (ham, cheese, tomato cake, etc.) to pair with the wines, along with a delightful dessert featuring peaches and apples from their orchard. We ended up buying 24 bottles at a great price. The backdrop of Miravet, with its rich history tied to the Templar Order and the stunning Templar Castle, added a magical touch to our visit. Overall, Mr. Gonzalez is amazing, generous, and passionate about their family vineyard. Please stop by Pedrola Cellar if you come to the Miravet Region. Not only will you fall in love with the region, but you'll also discover a great family and amazing wines!
