Romik Marine acquired Chateau Canon Chaigneau with their two small children just in July 2020, at the height of the Covid pandemic!

Terroirs of the Winery

21 hectares of clay & limestone with iron deposits, at the highest point of the Néac plateau, and in the continuity of the most prestigious part of the Pomerol plateau, 800 meters as the crow flies, from Château Petrus.

As Decanter magazine says, the plateau is, '...essentially a continuation of that of Pomerol itself, and the majority of the best crus of Lalande is found in this corner of the appellation.’.

Experienced Winemaking

Thierry Garnaud, was a winemaker of neighboring Château Cheval Blanc for 38 years. He knows this terroir perfectly and knows not only how to sublimate its exceptional qualities, but also how to express its unique identity.

He shares our ambition, to do our utmost to produce a wine that is both authentic and of remarkable quality. Our goal is to make Canon Chaigneau a wine of reference and a leader in an appellation that has been somewhat underestimated until now.

True to his values and past, Thierry makes suave, fine, rich wines that are balanced, with beautiful aromatic complexity, typically with notes of truffle, spices, cocoa, and black fruits.

Wines of Chateau Canon Chaigneau

Produced in accordance with ‘Agriculture Raisonnée', its poise and equilibrium via its blend give pride of place to Merlot (92%), the king grape variety of this Pomerolese terroir, Cabernet Franc (5%), another reference of this area, & Pressac (3%) for its flamboyant and spicy notes.

Our wine is noted for its elegance, finesse, and delicacy due to a moderate extraction and a maturing process that respects the identity and inherent opulence of each vintage. Striving to enhance also to preserve this magnificent terroir, we are certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) level 3. We will commit to organic practices from the next vintage onwards.

Impeccable wines; just shared a bottle of the 2008 and 2011 vintages with my extended family for Christmas. Absolutely delightful after being left to breathe for an hour or so. Looking forward to a '12 and and '18 over the next few days. Hope to visit the vinyard once normality returns.

I tried the estate's 18 year old red wine at La Petit Tour restaurant in Paris. It was excellent - the scent of red fruits and candied fruits filled the nose, the wine had just the right body and was perfect value for money. I can't wait to order a whole box of different vintages to try.
