Château Doyac: A Historic Winery in Bordeaux

Located in the renowned Bordeaux region of France, Château Doyac boasts a rich history that dates back to the 19th century, as noted in the 1850 publication "Bordeaux and its wines" by Editions Féret. In 1998, Max de Pourtalès returned to his Bordeaux roots by acquiring Château Doyac in the Haut-Médoc appellation. His wife, Astrid, transitioned from the New York theater scene to join him in this exciting new chapter, and together they fell in love with the region's stunning vineyards.

Modern Enhancements at the Winery

In 2009, the vineyard expanded, prompting Max to construct a new conditioning cellar and barrel cellar to enhance wine production. A tasting room, complete with a professional pizza oven, welcomes both journalists and wine enthusiasts. This setup allows the vineyard to showcase its wines under optimal conditions. In 2016, Château Doyac transitioned to organic farming, followed by a shift to biodynamic practices in 2017.

The 2018 vintage is certified organic, while the 2019 vintage holds Demeter biodynamic certification. Since 2018, Château Doyac has also been recognized as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur.

Grape Varieties and Vineyard Care

The dedicated team at Château Doyac prioritizes the health of their vineyards and the environment. Currently, 75% of the vineyard is planted with Merlot grapes, while the remaining 25% features Cabernet Sauvignon. Future plans include adjusting the proportions to 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The primary wine produced here is red wine, showcasing the unique terroir of the Bordeaux region.

Excellent estate, charming and very welcoming owners who know how to convey their passion for their profession. The wine is excellent, whether red or white.

The Pourtalès family brought turbot to Château Doyac by renovating the cellar and vineyard, switching to organic and then biodynamic viticulture. The result is found in the wine made with a high proportion of Merlot. Don't miss the splendid 2014 and the following vintages continue to progress. The estate also offers a very pretty gite for rent located in a small, self-contained house.

The highlight of our trip through the Medoc area. The winemaker Max gave us fellow winemakers a tour of his business, despite the start of the harvest. We felt very comfortable. Thank you again for your time. Greetings Ulrike and Thomas Lange - Organic Winery Lange, Hammelburg

Great! And what's more, there are pigs working in the vines❤️🐷 The red wine from Château Doyac at €18 per bottle (2016 vintage) is sublime, here there is a perfect terroir for merlot (like in St Emilion) except that the price is 3 times cheaper.
