The Cuvelier family runs the the Château Léoville Poyferré winery, built in 1638 and located in the Saint-Julien appellation in the Bordeaux region. Saint-Julien appellation sits on the left bank of the Gironde estuary between Margaux and Pauillac. The vineyards benefit from the sand, clay and gravel soils and has been carefully designed to have the best water drainage. The Wines of Château Léoville Poyferré
Growing Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, typical grapes from the Bordeaux region, Château Léoville Poyferré has a large pallette of flavors to work with when blending wines. Using a system of underground pipes, the winemakers manage to move the wines from the tanks directly to the oak barrels, which means less handling from the production team and a better quality of wines. The wines are aged for 18 months by using 75% of new and high-quality French oak barrels. The wines show a great purity and a powerful concentration. Aromas are spicy, with cassis, truffle, tobacco, and black fruits. The hallmark texture is rich and elegant.
