The Origins of Domaine Galtier Wines

Nestled on a plateau 120 meters above sea level, Domaine Galtier is situated 18 km north of Béziers, in the charming municipality of Murviel Béziers, within the village of Causses et Veyran. This estate has a rich history dating back to 1587, having passed through various owners while maintaining its authenticity and cultural diversity. In 1945, the Galtier-Carbonne family revitalized the estate by replanting the vines and expanding the land. In 1982, Jean Carbonne took over the estate from his grandfather, and together with his wife Lise, they established Domaine Galtier in 1996. Lise, an experienced oenologist, manages the vineyard's grape varieties, modernizes the cellar, and oversees sales.

The Vineyards Behind Our Exceptional Wines

Domaine Galtier spans 30 hectares, with 20 hectares designated as Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Languedoc, 3 hectares as Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée Saint Chinian, and 5 hectares classified as IGP Coteaux de Murviel. The vineyard features three distinct soil types from different geological periods: clay-limestone from the Bartonian period, a high school floor with colorful marble shards, and clay-limestone soil with sandstones and marly molasses from the Miocene. This diverse terroir contributes to the unique character of the wines produced here.

Commitment to Biodiversity and Sustainability

Domaine Galtier is dedicated to sustainable practices and has been a member of the Terra Vitis Sustainable Agriculture charter since 2002. This commitment focuses on observation, landscape preservation, and environmental protection, ensuring minimal input and respect for nature. In addition to the grapevines, the estate is home to 120 olive trees and 2 hectares of thyme for essential oil production. This harmonious relationship between the vines and their environment fosters the protection of local flora and fauna.

Cozy, independent domaine with its own oenologist. Nice wine in price ranges from €5 to €20. Lise Carbonne is always ready for a chat about wine and winemaking.

Really very enriching experience, it was beyond our expectations. We visit the vineyard, we learn about the profession, we taste, but the owner, a passionate person, is keen to help us learn about the history of the site, the history of the region, the environment and the sustainable agricultural practices implemented there. We also appreciated the fact that we could do the visit with 3 children (who also liked it and who were served delicious grape juice).
