Domaine Nikolaou, Winemaking History Since the 1930s
On the fringes of the mountain, Beseza, a winery named Domaine Nikolaou, wonderfully resides in Ntouramani near the ancient city of Keleon of Fliounta. The vineyards are located in the best Nemea PDO wine-growing region. Surrounded by fertile soil and cool Mediterranean breezes, the vineyards give the highest quality grapes to produce succulent wines.
Domaine Nikolaou rebuilt and renovated the old winery in 1984 and adopted organic standards for their viticulture and wine production.
Preserving Old Traditions in the Vineyards
The traditions of Domaine Nikolaou date back to the mid-1930s. Over the years, the Nikolaou Family has maintained and expanded the winemaking business. The winery owners rebuilt and renovated the old winery in 1984. Organic standards of viticulture and wine production were then also adopted. Today, Giannis Nikolaou, the owner and CEO of the wine estate, has installed modern machinery and latest technology in the cellar. He still follows his forefathers’ footsteps and has preserved the traditional viticulture methods to produce organic grapes.
Grape Varieties Grown at the Winery
In the grape farming area of 13 hectares, Giannis focuses on a wide range of grapes and make superlative organic wines with their combinations. He grows local vine varieties for red and rosé wines, such as Agiorgitiko, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Syrah. Unique Malagouzia, Moschofilero, Assyrtiko, and Kydonitsa are used to make award-winning white wines.
Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, archery, and so much more on the winery’s property. It is well worth visiting the estate to have a comprehensive view of magnificent vineyards with a glass of wine escaping the city’s vibrant life.
