The Brda Region and Its Unique Terroir

Located in the Goriska Brda region of Western Slovenia, Ferdinand Winery is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. This hidden gem, bordering Italy's Friuli region, features charming hilltop villages, rolling hills, and picturesque terraces adorned with olive trees and orchards. The unique geography, nestled between the Alpine mountains to the north and the Mediterranean Sea just 20 km to the south, creates an ideal environment for grape cultivation. This enchanting region is not just our home; it inspires our winemaking philosophy.

A Family Legacy of Passion and Quality

Matjaž Četrtič, a first-generation winemaker, began his journey in 1992 when he took over his grandfather's vineyard. With a focus on the local variety Rebula/Ribolla Gialla, Matjaž combined his passion for winemaking with a commitment to quality. Supported by his father, Marjan, and his wife, Jasmina, who also hails from a winemaking family, they now manage 10 hectares of vineyards. Their dedication to craftsmanship has resulted in wines that are celebrated both locally and internationally.

Exceptional Climate and Soil

The unique combination of a Mediterranean climate and the distinctive marl soil known as Opoka allows us to produce high-quality wines with a rich spectrum of aromas and a characteristic mineral note. Our vineyards, situated at elevations between 150 and 300 meters, benefit from significant temperature variations between day and night. This climate, along with the Opoka soil, contributes to the full-bodied nature of our wines, making them suitable for aging.

We hand-pick our grapes with the help of family and friends, ensuring that only the best fruit is selected. We pay special attention to our best vintages, allowing for extended skin contact to enhance structure and flavor. Our wines are gaining recognition from wine experts and competitions worldwide.
