Howard’s Folly is a remarkable winery born from a partnership between Chief Winemaker David Baverstock and entrepreneur Howard Bilton. Their shared passion for Portugal’s diverse grape varietals drives their mission to produce exceptional wines while giving back to the community through the Sovereign Art Foundation, which supports underprivileged children. Located in the historic town of Estremoz, Howard’s Folly operates from a beautifully restored heritage building that now serves as a state-of-the-art winery.

The Vines and Wines of Howard’s Folly

The main vineyard spans 7 hectares of 20-25-year-old vines in Portalegre, benefiting from the cool climate of the Alentejo region. This unique environment contributes to the wines' freshness, elegance, and finesse. Additionally, Howard’s Folly collaborates with local farmers who cultivate ancient vines, producing complex, low-yielding grapes that enhance the quality of their wines. The winery employs smaller fermentation tanks to maintain high fruit quality and keep wine batches separate, allowing for the creation of premium varietals and blends. This meticulous approach ensures that each bottle reflects the true essence of Alentejo’s terroir.
