Toro Wines and Their Rich History

Spain is a country of remarkable diversity, and the history of the Castilla y León region is no exception. Bodegas Legado De Orniz carries a legacy rooted in respect and a profound understanding of this land, cultivated for thousands of years by various civilizations, including the Celts, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, and Spaniards. This rich tapestry of cultures has given rise to the renowned Tinta de Toro, known as “The Redest” Spanish wine. To appreciate its uniqueness, it helps to know that “Tinta” translates to “Red,” while “de Toro” means “of Bull.” The wine's deep red hue is reminiscent of the color of bulls’ blood, which is why the winery is located in the DO Toro appellation.

Argentinian Influence at Bodegas Legado De Orniz

The winery and its surrounding vineyards represent the Body, while the skilled winemakers embody its Soul. The cellar is expertly managed by Enriqueta Celemín Amaro, a native of Spain, and Diego Alfredo Ribbert, who hails from Argentina. Both possess Oenology degrees and extensive vinification experience from around the globe. Together, they blend the best practices of Spanish and Argentinian winemaking. The owners prioritize sustainability and are always eager to welcome visitors to the winery.

The Winery and Its Distinct Terroir

The DO Toro wine region boasts a long-standing winemaking tradition. Its vineyards are particularly special; while much of Europe faced the devastating Phylloxera plague in the 19th century, the noble vineyards of Toro remained untouched, thanks to the unique soil structure. As a result, wine enthusiasts can savor rare wines crafted from grapes grown on select pre-Phylloxera vines, offering a taste of history in every sip.

Simply an extraordinary experience

Spending 3 hours with fantastic and passionate wine enthusiasts was an experience going into our memory for a very long time. Enri and Diego are the best hosts you can imagine. They showed us all details of their wine production, we went into the wine fields, Diego took plenty time to explain what makes their Toro quality unique. Simply an extraordinary experience
