Family-owned Azienda Agricola Cosimo Murace in Calabria, Italy, has been crafting organic wines since 1998.
Azienda Agricola Cosimo Murace is a family-run winery established in 1998 by Cosimo Murace, a dedicated winemaker and enologist. With a passion for nature and community, Cosimo embraced organic farming practices from the start, achieving organic certification with his first vintage. In 1996, he proudly received the Bivongi DOC appellation. His winemaking career began at 18, working for nearly a decade before launching his own brand. Located in the picturesque village of Bivongi, just 20 km from the Ionian coast of Calabria, the winery features a small vineyard of 3 hectares nestled in the surrounding hills.
In 2020, Cosimo's daughter, Valentina, joined the family business, bringing a fresh perspective. She redesigned the labels, revamped the website and social media, and introduced new experiences like wine tastings at the winery and the "Tour in Vigna," a guided vineyard tour followed by a tasting. These initiatives have helped showcase her father's dedication to winemaking.
The history of winemaking in Bivongi dates back to the 7th century when Byzantine monks first planted vineyards in the region. Today, wine production remains limited, with grapes sourced from three heroic vineyards cultivated on steep slopes, benefiting from ideal conditions such as wind, sun, and underground water sources.
Azienda Agricola Cosimo Murace produces three distinct wines:
Valle della Saetta: A refreshing white wine crafted from Malvasia, Guardavalle, and Ansonica grapes.
Fiorello: A vibrant rosé made entirely from Gaglioppo grapes.
Cosmì: A rich red wine blend of Gaglioppo, Greco Nero, and Calabrese Nero.
Additionally, the estate produces Mosto Cotto, a traditional regional product made by cooking the must from red grapes. Another notable offering is Les Petites Filles, a Passito dessert wine crafted from Malvasia grapes. Each wine reflects the unique terroir of Calabria, showcasing the region's identity and character.
