The Winery

Olivi – Le Buche is a wine producer on the south of Tuscany. It was established in 2002 by Giuseppe Olivi and his son Riccardo. The Winery, under the guidance of Andrea Paoletti, a well-known winemaker (already a consultant for Ornellaia, Caiarossa, I Veroni, Amepeleia and others) makes an assortment of wines focused largely on Bordeaux blends (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot). The wide range of wines includes also 3 different Protected Designation of Origin:  Toscana IGT for the most part of the wines  2 Orcia Doc for a red wine and a white wine called Coreno (Trebbiano and Malvasia)  1 Chianti Superiore (Colli senesi).

The Estate

The estate is located in a very suited land to the production of wine. There were already large vineyards (called “Vignone”) as they appeared on the ancient maps of Cadastre Leopold of 1826. The wine estate “Le Buche” has 27 hectares of vineyards, including 4 hectares of 60 years old vines with Trebbiano, Malvasia, and Sangiovese. Vineyards are located in strategic areas on top of the hills where they can enjoy perfect climate conditions.

Soils are very different one to the other from the clay, silty-clay soils of the red-grape varieties to the gravel soils for the white ones. The Winery, thanks also to Florence University rediscoveries, produces 2005 a rare native Tuscany grape variety called Pugnitello. The Pugnitello grapes give a wine an intense red color with purple notes, good structure, and soft tannins. It is interesting both as mono-varietal wine as in a blend giving special features to the aging of the wine. The flagship wine is Le Buche Orcia Doc, a blend of Sangiovese and mostly Cabernet sauvignon. Proportions of each variety change depending on the conditions of the vintage. A great wine selection is “I PURI” which is usually a limited-edition selection of a mono-varietal wine made only in the best years. Memento, Tempore, and a really good selection of whites, rosé and sparkling rosé wines complete the line-up of Olivi- Le Buche Winery.

An unforgettable experience surrounded by vineyards and authentic flavors I had the pleasure of spending a wonderful morning at Le Buche and the experience was simply fantastic. Since our arrival we were welcomed with warmth and professionalism, making us feel immediately at home. The tasting in the vineyard was the highlight of the day. Immersed in the beauty of the rows, we had the chance to taste exceptional wines, each with its own story and unique character, told with passion by those who produce it. Equally unforgettable was the picnic that followed among the vineyards. The basket was full of local delicacies. In summary, Le Buche offers an experience that goes beyond a simple wine tasting. It is an immersion in local culture and tradition, a moment of peace and serenity that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to live an authentic food and wine experience in Tuscany.

A beautiful winery and olive oil supplier. We booked the wine tasting for 30 euros (1 day in advance!). The wines are great, especially the Pugnitello, a grape variety from Tuscany. The advice was very friendly and courteous. The wines can also be delivered to Germany. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed a complimentary wine tour whilst staying at Agriturismo La Sovana (same owners). Both the agriturismo as well is the winery are superb. We tasted 3 wines and I will definitely be bringing some home after our holiday.

Lovely wine tour and tasting. We learned about grape pruning and growth in addition to the wine making process. Easy reservation through WhatsApp. Make sure to ask them about the best way to get there. There is one treacherous way and one easier way - both unpaved.
