Talha de Frades: Bridging Tradition and Innovation in Talha Wine

Talha de Frades embodies Mr. Alexandre Frade's dedication to Talha Wine, an ancient winemaking technique that has thrived for centuries. This method is not just about producing wine; it represents a cultural legacy that connects us to the rich traditions of Alentejo.

At Talha de Frades, we view Talha Wine as a link between the past, present, and future. Our philosophy drives us to create wines that honor traditional practices while also embracing innovative techniques and oenological advancements.

A Distinctive Winery Experience

Visitors to Talha de Frades can expect an engaging experience that highlights the blend of tradition and modernity in Talha Wine. A visit to our winery includes:

  • The Traditional Method – an age-old process passed down from the Romans, where grapes ferment naturally in clay jars, free from invasive technologies.
  • Creative Winemaking – a commitment to respecting tradition while also enhancing the wine's longevity and complexity through innovative practices.
  • The Living Past – featuring carvings and artifacts, some dating back to 1856, that preserve the history and identity of Alentejo.
  • The Future of Talha Wine – a belief in the extraordinary aging potential of this wine, inspiring us to craft bottles meant for long-term enjoyment.

Tradition with a Vision for Tomorrow

At Talha de Frades, we honor our heritage while looking forward. We were among the first to certify Talha Wine as DOC Alentejo - Talha Wine, demonstrating our commitment to preserving this unique legacy.

Our wines are crafted in three distinct facilities:

  • Two traditional wineries
  • The first gravitational cellar dedicated to Talha Wine

Each bottle we produce reflects our dual commitment to tradition and innovation.

Experience the Essence of Alentejo with Talha de Frades

At Talha de Frades, every wine tells a story, every carving reveals a secret, and every tasting is a connection to the heart of Alentejo.

Authentic Wine Tasting with Heart and History

We did a wine tasting at Adega do Chato and it was an experience we’ll fondly remember. The space is simple but full of history. Dina has incredible knowledge about the history of Vinho de Talha and the Talha de Frades. She shares everything with great enthusiasm and good humor. Each wine came with a story, and every sip was a discovery. The selection was varied and well-balanced — from younger wines to more aged ones (a rarity for Vinho de Talha), all beautifully presented. What struck us the most was the authenticity of the place and its people. This isn’t a commercial or scripted experience — it’s all genuine, crafted with passion. Perfect for anyone looking to discover a unique wine and the rich history behind it! Highly recommended!!

Adega Talha de Frades is truly enchanting! A place full of tradition, beauty, and the soul of the Alentejo. I must highlight the friendliness and professionalism of Dina Janeiro, who makes the experience even more special with her dedication and warmth. The wines are wonderful, and the welcoming atmosphere makes us want to return. I highly recommend it!

Altamente Recomendado!!
