Boutique Winery in a Historic Schoolhouse Setting
Yalovo Winery – A Hidden Gem in Veliko Tarnovo
Yalovo Winery is a charming boutique winery nestled at the base of the Balkan Mountains, just south of Veliko Tarnovo. Founded by visionary Anton Tanev and oenologist Dimitar Dimov, this winery aims to create wines that reflect the unique beauty of the Danubian Plain. The wines produced here blend traditional methods with modern techniques, resulting in a distinctive character that wine lovers appreciate.
Housed in a beautifully preserved early 20th-century school building, Yalovo Winery offers a unique atmosphere.
Renovations and Transformation in 2014
The winery occupies a historic stone structure that once served as a school, built in the early 1900s. After closing in the 1950s, the building was protected as a cultural monument. In 2014, renovations began to transform this former school into a winery. Today, wine production occurs in a modern facility adjacent to the main building, while the old classrooms have been repurposed as wine aging rooms. Visitors can also enjoy a tasting room, a bar with an open kitchen, a dining area, and a beautifully landscaped garden.
Main Grape Varieties at Yalovo Winery
The winemakers at Yalovo Winery carefully select vineyard plots to cultivate a variety of grapes, ensuring that the essence of the region is captured in each bottle. They focus on reviving traditional local grape varieties, including Dimyat, Pamid, Gamza, Rubin, and Chardonnay. This commitment to quality and tradition allows Yalovo Winery to produce wines that truly represent the Danubian Plain.
