Yalovo Winery – a Small Boutique Winery Located in Veliko Tarnovo
Yalovo Winery is a small boutique cellar situated at the foot of the Balkan Mountains south of Veliko Tarnovo. Visionary Anton Tanev and the oenologist Dimitar Dimov embarked with a mutual desire to create wines with a character expressing the region’s beauty and their shared interest in winemaking. Yalovo Winery wines have the characteristics of traditions combined with pure techniques and aesthetics.
Yalovo Winery is housed in an early 20th-century building with a traditional aesthetic.
Rennovatins in 2014
The Yalovo Winery is housed in the massive stone building of the former school in Yalovo, built in the early 20th century. In the 1950s, the school closed its doors, and the building was placed under civil protection. The reconstruction of the building and the transformation of the school into a winery began in 2014. The primary production takes place in an adjacent outer structure, and the former classrooms are the wine aging rooms where the wine barrels are housed. There is also a tasting room, a bar with an open kitchen, a dining room, and a beautifully landscaped yard.
Main Grapes Grown at the Winery
For the wines, the winemakers have selected vineyard plots, which they work closely in to monitor the grapes’ growth so that this is transferred into the flavors of the wine. The winemakers’ goals are to revive traditional local varietals of grapes, as vineyard plots are planted with Dimyat, Pamid, Gamza, Rubin, and Chardonnay.
