Clos des Quarterons, An Exceptional Organic Winery
The Amirault family has been running the prestigious Clos des Quarterons for almost two centuries. The winery lies between Anjou and Tourraine, in the Loire Valley. The winery respects its terroir and environment, they use organic and sustainable techniques to produce their wines. The winemakers at the winery constantly put efforts into achieving a natural balance in the vineyard. They also follow biodynamic agriculture methods to cultivate the different grape varieties.
The Rich Terroir of Clos des Quarterons
The Clos des Quarterons is certified for organic farming and biodynamic viticulture by the international certification under Demeter. The main grape variety is Cabernet Franc. The vineyards of the winery lie on gentle south-facing slopes and bask in the sun, a forest in the north offers shelter from the harsh, cold winds. The soils of the vineyards are made of an alluvium of gravel, the vines grow on the slopes, and their roots lie in limestone and silty clay. The rest of the plots on the first terrace sits in sandy and gravel soils. Clos des Quarterons vineyard plots have a great clay base that provides optimal nutrients to the vines. The individual microclimate of the region creates a unique terroir for grape growing.
