Evoi Wines: A Premier Boutique Winery

Located in the heart of the Margaret River region, Evoi Wines stands out as one of the area's premier boutique wineries. Founded by Nigel Ludlow in 2007, this winery began in his home garage with just two barrels of Chardonnay, which quickly garnered excellent reviews. Nigel's commitment to crafting premium wines using traditional methods and his keen intuition has earned Evoi a reputation for quality.
Nigel Ludlow manages Evoi Wines almost entirely on his own.

The Meaning Behind Evoi

The name Evoi is derived from a Latin term meaning "ecstatic shouts from the disciples of Bacchus," the Roman god of wine. Nigel Ludlow, a distinctive figure in Australian winemaking, oversees every aspect of the winery, from vineyard management to sales. His hands-on approach ensures that each bottle reflects his passion and expertise.

Exceptional Grapes for Quality Wines

Nigel holds a diploma in Oenology and Viticulture from Lincoln University and has gained valuable experience in winemaking across Hungary, South Africa, and Spain. He selected a small vineyard in the Willyabrup Region of Margaret River, known for its rich soil and unique microclimate, ideal for growing premium grapes. The vineyard primarily cultivates Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay, Cabernet, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Evoi Wines has received a 5-star rating from the James Halliday Wine Companion and numerous prestigious awards, showcasing the excellence of their red and white wines.

Nigel and his wife were great hosts. The tour was very interesting and we greatly enjoyed a little tasting. No problems with answering any questions people might have. The little play ground was neat and plenty of space for the larger kids. Easy access and easy to find. Thanks for a nice time.

Nigel was a very friendly knowledgeable host and his daughter put together a great cheese platter. We were shown the whole set up and the equipment needed to produce and bottle all kinds of wine. The wines were delicious 😋 We sampled lots of different reds and whites at different stages and vintages. Very relaxed and enjoyable experience and came away with a few bottles for memory makers 😍 Thanks again Nigel and Co. Good luck with your future plans to include their own made chocolates. We hope to visit again sometime and sample more of your award winning wines. Great job guys 👏

We spent a super relaxing afternoon with Nigel & his lovely Daughter at EVOI Wines. Nigel spent his time with us explaining how his wine is made, from vine to bottle & it was fascinating. That was followed by an incredibly tasty cheese platter 🧀🥂. Evoi Wines are amazing. We don’t usually go for whites but honestly, Nigel has created the most delicious varieties & we enjoyed everything 😋. Huge thank you to Evoi Wines for the best day out!

Nigel & daughter are passionate about the wines which was evident in the way Nigel made us feel about tasting wines directly from the barrel & tanks. This was followed by a reserve experience at the cellar door. The barrel experience allowed us to understand the artistry & skill that goes into developing cleaverly crafted wines. The barrel wines we could appreciate right now. With cellaring time these would turn more elegant & refined. The wines for me are 1. the chardonnay, not heavily oaked, creamy, lingering apricot lime on the palette. Finish was fine & slight brioche mouth-feel. 2. Malbec, full, fruity without being a bomb & extremely smooth. Slight acidity so would cellar another 5 - 8 years. 3. 2014 the Satyr, smooth rounded soft Bordeaux blend. Surprised at how easy it was to drink now. Cigar box, thyme/oregano, dark berry. Great expression of WA blend. Drinking now or cellar 6 - 8 years. Thanks Nigel for your time in this busy period and we'll be back.

The tour was so informative and delicious. The platter was very plentiful as well. Sanoise had so much knowledge that she shared with us in ease. We'd highly recommend anyone to head out to Evoi Wines. Such a beautiful small winery. Thank you.
