The Origin Story of Fattoria Santo Stefano

Fattoria Santo Stefano takes its name from the nearby church, Santo Stefano a Collegalle, located in the picturesque Greve in Chianti. Established in 1916, the estate has been a family-run vineyard under the stewardship of the Bendinelli Family. Mauro Bendinelli, the founder, dedicated his life to cultivating authentic wines and olives. Today, his legacy continues with his children, Elena and her brother, who have been managing the winery since 2000, upholding the traditions of Chianti Classico. Nestled on a hilltop near Florence, Fattoria Santo Stefano is renowned for its exceptional wines, cherished by locals and visitors alike.

A Passion for Olive Groves

Mauro's love for olive cultivation led to the establishment of the estate's olive grove. Each November, the olives are hand-harvested and promptly pressed at the mill. This cold extraction process, combined with the careful timing of the harvest, results in a unique extra virgin olive oil characterized by a fresh, slightly spicy flavor and a vibrant green hue with golden reflections. The oil is stored in stainless steel tanks after filtration, preserving its nutritional properties and ensuring high quality. Fattoria Santo Stefano's olive oil is a true testament to the rich agricultural heritage of Tuscany.

A very beautiful location with views of the Chianti vineyards. Two reasonably sized pools, one of which is very large for this area. Fine wine tastings directly from the producer, and olive oil is also available. Good breakfast. Very authentic. Friendly owners. It's not upscale. If that's what you're looking for, you won't feel at home here. It's authentic and well-suited for families.

We had an absolutely perfect stay at Santo Stefano. Elena and family and staff welcomed us as family. Beautiful estate with vineyards, magical Tuscan location like in a movie. Elena was so very kind and with so much hospitality, we did a cooking class which was one of the highlights of our trip. We also did the wine tour and lunch which had several courses, so much food and wine tastings. Fantastic breakfast and very welcoming atmosphere the entire time. A beautiful Tuscan retreat, quaint Greve town very close. Great home base when visiting Tuscany, we drove to nearby wineries and around Tuscany while visiting.Highly recommend such a beautiful place.

We were served by the highly trained and professional sales manager and sommelier Ivan, as well as by the owners. After telling a bit of history, we were guided on a visit to the vineyards and a tasting of wine and food pairings in the spirit of Chianti Classico. A beautiful and highly recommended experience.

We did a wine and olive oil tasting at this beautiful farm. The owner Elena and the guide Fillipo were very friendly and knowledgeable. There was a tour of the grounds followed by some charcuterie and wine and oil tastings. This was followed up by an amazing lunch of beef and boar ragu and a dessert that was out of this world. I highly recommend the tour and all the wine and oils they offer. My favorite wine was the chanti classico as it goes well with just about any meal. It was such a relaxing reprieve from the crowds of Rome and Naples and gave the feeling of what you see in the movies about Tuscany. Go, relax and enjoy! You will be so pleased you made the journey.
