Experience Authentic Georgian Wines in Kakheti
The Vision Behind Mikheili's Marani
Mikheili’s Marani is a charming family-owned winery located in Kvareli, the heart of Georgia's Kakheti region. Since 2018, this boutique cellar has been dedicated to crafting traditional natural wines and chacha, reflecting a deep passion for Georgian winemaking. With a focus on quality over quantity, Mikheili’s Marani produces a limited selection of handcrafted wines using indigenous Kakhetian grape varieties, which are carefully cultivated in their vineyards.
Traditional Pitcher Winemaking
Georgia boasts a rich winemaking history that dates back over 8,000 years, with the use of clay pitchers, known as qvevri, being a hallmark of this tradition. In 2013, UNESCO recognized this unique method as an Intangible Cultural Heritage. These clay vessels are buried underground in the cellar, providing an ideal environment for fermentation and aging.
During the winemaking process, the grapes are fermented and aged in the qvevri alongside chacha, a traditional Georgian spirit. This technique results in wines that exhibit a beautiful golden or dark straw color, a crisp texture, and delightful fruit notes, complemented by moderate tannins. The distinct flavors of these wines reflect the rich terroir of Kakheti, making them a true representation of Georgian heritage.
