A Historic Fortress in the Heart of Tuscany
Fortress and Noble Heritage
Rocca di Castagnoli is a historic medieval fortress that gives its name to the charming hamlet of Castagnoli. Over the centuries, this site has been owned by several noble families, including the Tempi and Ricasoli, each contributing to its rich history.
The winery has been producing exceptional wines since the 18th century, gaining recognition for its quality. In 1773, Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo praised the winery's management and dedication to cultivating the land. In 1924, Rocca di Castagnoli became a founding member of the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium. Since 1981, our family has continued this legacy, undertaking significant vineyard replanting and restoring the medieval fortress, ensuring the production of high-quality wines that reflect our storied past.
Nestled in the heart of Chianti Classico, the hamlet of Castagnoli overlooks a picturesque valley surrounded by lush woods, vineyards, and olive groves. This area has deep historical roots, dating back to the Etruscans. In 1981, we modernized the Villa and Rocca, implementing innovative vineyard and cellar practices. Our new vinification cellar complements the ancient cellars of the fortress, which provide ideal conditions for aging our wines in French oak barrels, resulting in elegant and complex flavors.
