Montello Asolo wine region is a unique wine-growing region of Veneto producing a broad range of styles of wines. The region is mainly known for sparking, white prosecco, and dry red wines predominantly made from Bordeaux grape varieties. The region received its wine-specific DOC in 2005 although the region was created in 1977 and has grown ever since. The region is relatively small and is named after the town of Asolo which lies in the heart of the wine region. Where is the Montello Asolo wine region?

Montello Asolo wine region is located in the northeastern corner of the Veneto wine region of Italy. The region encompasses parishes of Castelluccio, Cornuda, and Monfumo and several tiny parts of neighboring parishes. The region is located 75km north of Venice and is one of many renowned regions of Veneto. The Montello Asolo covers around 65 hectares of vineyards with the production of 3380 hectoliters are quality wines. The region is south of the Prosecco region, west of the Piave wine region, and northeast of the Breganze wine region.  

History of the Montello Asolo wine region

Montello Asolo wine region was created in 1977 and sold two traditional blended wines that had been produced in the area for centuries - a Rosso and a Bianco. The part evolved with a wide range of wine styles which was then added to the regulation only in 2005. In 2009, the DOCG Colli Asolani Prosecco was added to the appellation. The name of the region was changed in 2020 to Asolo Montello or Montello Asolo from Montello e Colli Asolani. The Rosso wines from the region are now labeled as Montello Rosso DOCG.

Montello Asolo is a tiny area with diverse terrain and mesoclimate that is suited for vine cultivation. The region's geography is generally mountainous, with some of the best vineyards located on the slopes of the Asolo hills. Because of its proximity to the Mediterranean and its latitude, Asolo Montello enjoys a mild climate. The gradual undulating hills create a diverse mesoclimate with varying exposures, sunlight, and temperature. Severe cold wind is blowing across the region, especially around Monte Grappa. Rainfall is distributed equally across the region.

The cathedral also serves as the seat of the diocese of Treviso's vicariate. In 1959, the church was awarded college status as a body of titular and honorary canons led by a provost, a parish priest.
