"Ktima Montofoli" is produced from privately owned vines that grow on the hill of Montofoli overlooking the bay of Karystos and the Aegean Sea. The vineyard was planted in 1986 where lemon and orange trees used to grow. It measures 4 acres and is at an altitude of 150 m from sea level.
The climate is temperate and is characterized by the strong winds that blow in the area in the summer, de-leafing the vines and exposing the grapes to the strong summer sun. Towards the middle of August, the grapes are harvested selectively and are left to dry in the sun for 7 to 10 days, depending on the weather conditions. Following the pressing and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels to age for up to 7 years. The wine is then bottled, it rests for a couple of months before being released in the market.
The production is very limited with 3000 to 4000 bottles each year.
Tasting notes: Rich, with a deep amber colour and sweet complex aromas of sweet spices, caramel, vanilla and dried fruit such as plums and figs. Delicious, long and lingering finish with excellent acidity.
Serving and Food Pairing: serve cold (5 – 6 oC) as an aperitif or a dessert wine. We suggest you accompany chocolate, coffee, full-flavored cheeses, it is impressive with blue cheese and bitter-almond biscuits.
Ageing: 10-15 Years
