The Story of the Weck Family

The family arms go back to Mathias Weck, provost of Gueberschwihr between 1708 and 1719.

From 1781 to the Revolution, it was Antoine Weck who acted as provost of Gueberschwihr, a village to which the lineage has remained faithful to this day: 454 years later, the descendants are still prospering in this jewel of the vineyard.

Clément, born in 1942, naturally headed down the path of viticulture. After obtaining the school certificate, he worked on the farm. During the winter, he took advanced courses at the agricultural school in Rouffach, from which he graduated in 1958.

Avant-garde and very tenacious, Clément decided to abandon polyculture to devote himself exclusively to viticulture. In 1973, the entire harvest was bottled at the estate. Today, second generation wine makers Mattiheu and Isabelle run the winery.

Artisanal Vines and Wines at Weck Clément et Fils

Without converting to organic, Matthieu is very interested in it. He practices treatment dose reductions, in order to apply a minimum of treatment products to the vines. His trials even led him to treat with homeopathy, a technique unfortunately prohibited in France. In 2010 he decided to deal exclusively with organic products and abandoned insecticides. In 2014 the total abandonment of insecticides is the subject of a village project which is a great moment for Gueberschwihr and for us too. Our vines are worked in an artisanal way, we favor manual work in order to limit the passage of machines which manhandle and compact the soil.

Harvesting is always manual, allowing the best possible selection of the bunches, obtaining optimal quality, respecting the soil and avoiding compaction. In 2021, the decision is made to convert to organic .

Small winehouse with awesome wines! Especially the Sylvaner, it is one of my favourites. Really looking forward to come back here and buy a lot of wine. I think we were helped by a daughter of the owner, but she knew where she was talking about. You wont regret to taste here and take some wines home!

Came in February on recommendations from friends, we really enjoyed our stay here. Very well received by the owners, lots of explanations, a real love of their products that can be felt. And a very friendly and warm tasting moment. We do not regret our purchases, and our visit

Passing through the region, we chose this address for a tasting, and we did well because not only were the wines excellent, but we were very well received. The explanations were perfect, the kindness and simplicity were there. Don't hesitate!

After our umpteenth visit to the Weck house I can tell you that it is one of the jewels of Alsace! The wine is excellent, it is partly traditional but also innovative. Try this Crémant with its touch of hibiscus you will be amazed! And just as important as the wine the spirit of this family is phenomenal we were received by the dad a few years ago already, then by the mom and for the first time by the son and although 99% of Alsatian winegrowers are nice and welcoming the Weck family remains our favorite stop. We will come back and last point: what a joy to know that the next generation is very well positioned to take over with a young man who already wins awards with his wine blends. Thank you Weck family!
