How can I travel to Alsace wine region by air?

Strasbourg International Airport (SXB) is the main airport in the Alsace region, however there are nearby airports where you can arrive to start your journey to explore wineries in Alsace:
- Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport (BSL)
- Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB)
- Stuttgart Airport (STR)
- Frankfurt International Airport (FRA)

There are daily direct flights to SXB from major airports in the UK, and other European cities throughout the year to explore wineries in Alsace.

Alsace wine route by car

Exploring the Alsace wine route by car is one of the best experiences you can have while traveling in this beautiful corner of France. Alsace wine route is one of the most picturesque wine routes that is 170 kilometers long and passes through breathtaking vineyard landscapes and historical villages. If you arrive in Strasbourg,  you can follow the Alsace wine route to the south and explore wineries near Colmar and  Riquewihr.
When traveling in Alsace, you can reach Strasbourg by various highways:
- from the Paris and Benelux, take the A4 highway (E25). About 4 hours from Paris and 2 hours 15 minutes from Luxembourg.
- from Switzerland and Lyon, take the A35 highway (E25). About 5 hours from Lyon
- from the north and east likely Germany, take the A5 highway (E35).
Driving into the heart of Strasbourg is relatively easy although there are a few streets off-limits to cars. There are many large garages surrounding the old city if your hotel does not have its own parking facility. Some carparks are more expensive than others, especially for longer stays.

Alsace wine route By Train

Due to the excellent train network to and from Paris, the best way to reach Alsace is to fly into any major French city and take the TGV from there. Air France and some of its partners also offer combined tickets in an air-rail alliance. Strasbourg is well served by regional, national and international train services, predominantly by SNCF (French Railways), but also by Deutsche Bahn (German Railways).
