A geo-winemaker's dream

Domaine de la Bouvaude is, above all, a passionate dream come true. This adventure began with the encounter between Alain Blachon, a trained geologist and winemaker at heart, and the rocks that form the Safres mountains and surround the vineyards.

The Safres, these sandstone hills, are the origin of the sandy clay or sandy pebbles soils that make the terroir of Rousset-les-Vignes something unique.

These rocks are the remains of the ancient Mediterranean, which sculpted an archipelago landscape that we can still make out. Alluvial deposits, torn from the nearby Alps, were deposited here. Thanks to the lightness of these soils and the numerous mineral elements they contain, we obtain wines of great finesse at Rousset-les-Vignes.

The ancient Greeks were not mistaken, and it was they who brought wine to the region. Vineyards then developed in the 15th century.

Terroir is a matter of soil, but also of climate. Here in Rousset-les-Vignes, the Provençal climate, combined with an altitude of 450m, allows for optimal ripeness of the grapes while maintaining great freshness. The Mistral, a north wind, cleans the vineyard and helps limit attacks on the vines.

But of course, the terroir needs peasant know-how to express itself.

Alain Blachon and his team have begun a conversion to organic farming (Ecocert) for the twenty hectares of the estate, a logical continuation of the efforts that were previously put in place in favor of biodiversity.

The goal is to continue preserving this setting, to adopt a sustainable approach with a controlled environmental impact and respect for ecological balances. The HVE label obtained by the Estate reinforces the initial results obtained.

Furthermore, Alain is moving towards plot-by-plot vinification to reveal the mysteries of this terroir. A new gravity-fed cellar will open in 2023, which will allow for better control over vinification and wine aging, and a striving for greater excellence.

The Domaine de la Bouvaude score is played by several hands, with a team made up of young talents (Julie Gravelet, cellar master, Yann Jacob, vineyard manager), without forgetting Pascal Chatonnet, our internationally renowned consulting oenologist.

A synergy where new ideas for the Estate abound.

We have three main wine families:

A call to celebration and conviviality: a range of light and fruity wines, in the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation: Fruiandise, in red, white and rosé
Typical and unique: structured and more complex wines, in the Côtes-du-Rhône Village Rousset-les-Vignes appellation, in red and white
The “single-varietal” wines from the Les Thyrses range: wines produced from our best plots of Grenache, Syrah and Marselan

Each one responds to a particular request, a state of mind or a well-defined occasion, but always a moment of shared pleasure.
